Allow me to list a brief list of groups that I do know to hold Christians in contempt. Homosexuals, pedophiles, animal sacrificing “satanist”, al-queada and most muslims, communists, Hitler and his henchmen, stalin , and an endless multitude of depraved humans sadists and sociopaths who are incapable of understanding the humanism of people such as mother teresa and the legions of those who are motivated with love and compassion to sacrifice their own needs for others based on the teachings of Christ and other wisdom found in that book they so despise.
Can you add other reasons?

I consider myself a spiritual person, but I simply cannot stand going to church. I find the sermons boring, the music lackluster, the overall mood something between forced friendliness and plastic-faced serenity, and it just pales to sleeping in on Sunday, drinking coffee and reading the paper. I'm glad some folks enjoy it....but for me and my nearly 40 years on earth, I've never really sat through a service that felt worthwhile.

I take after my Grandpa. He always liked going through the woods, and felt he was closer to God there than he was in some sheet-metal and plywood structure that was isolated from the world the Almighty created.

I was just wondering what the general Christian opinion on marijuana was? I know the bible doesn't specifically mention it, but I figure most could form an opinion based on what the bible does say.

Little Mary was not the best student in Sunday School. Usually she slept through the class. One day the teacher called on her while she was napping, ''Tell me, Mary, who created the universe?''
When Mary didn't stir, little Johnny, an altruistic boy seated in the chair behind her, took a pin and jabbed her in the rear. ''God Almighty !'' shouted Mary and the teacher said, ''Very good'' and Mary fell back to sleep.

A while later the teacher asked Mary, ''Who is our Lord and Savior?'' But Mary didn't even stir from her slumber. Once again, Johnny came to the rescue and stuck her again. ''Jesus Christ!'' shouted Mary and the teacher said, ''Very good,'' and Mary fell back to sleep.
Then the teacher asked Mary a third question, ''What did Eve say to Adam after she had her twenty-third child?'' And again, Johnny jabbed her with the pin. This time Mary jumped up and shouted, ''If you stick that damn thing in me one more time, I'll break it in half!''
The Teacher fainted.

What if the universe never "began", we only live in the most recent life of the universe, since the big bang. (Think about this, what if the big bang was really the end of the previous universe) Everything from galaxies, stars, planet and life all share a common thread. We are born, we live and we die. Then why couldn't the Universe do this as well? In an endless cycle of birth, death and rebirth. So if there was no actually beginning of this cycle, then where does God fit in. He doesn't have anything to do.

Or did we put God there? Humans always tend to humanize things to make them easier to understand.

Do you believe that all of humanity will ever be able to co-exist in the areas of religion and spirituality? Can we allow each individual their own beliefs without bashing one another for them?
If the Athiest does not believe in God - why should I try to make him/her?
If the Agnostic is merely one without knowledge (and by the way a person can be agnostic about anything... I am agnostic about bio-chemical warfare) can I lovingly show him/her my beliefs without degrading other systems. Not to sway that person but just to show an option?
If a Christian is so set in their ways why must another call them names to feel better about themselves?
Why have so many of the US population based their decisions on Islam based on what they are shown on television? How many of those who do not practice Islam have actually gone to see it practiced in their homes or place of worship?
Ask questions, find out why others believe or practice they way they do, with an open mind. Cant hurt. Can it?

The Bible is specifically against magic, witchcraft, sorcery---any of that stuff.

Deut. 18:10-13
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God.

2nd Chronicles 33:6
He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced sorcery, divination and witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

(obviously these things--witchcraft, etc--is angering the Lord)

So what do you think? How about JR Tolkien ?
