It isn't a sin, drunkenness is a sin.the same as eating isnt a sin, but gluttony is a sin. anything that takes the place of God in our lives is a sin. When we drink to clear our problems instead of taking them to God then they become sins. Many legalistic people claim it is a sin, but is really just one of their rules. I am a christian and quite frankly I don't drink because I just don't want to give the devil that foothold in my life, but that is my own personal decision. everything in moderation, that is the key.

The Bible stresses clearly that to drink to excess is a sin! Getting drunk and gluttony (over eating) is a sin.

I suppose people will argue whether the wine Jesus referred to and even in the case of his turning water into wine was actually grape juice or literally fermented wine.

The truth of the matter is simple -it was alcoholic - BECAUSE it keeps longer than juice. The alcohol content (strength) was light fermented and heavily fermented. You had wine that would knock off the chill so to speak and then you had the heavy duty stuff that could knock you on your rumperutimus.

Paul ( i think it was ) said to DRINK A "LITTLE" Wine for the stomach's sake and infirmities - in other words it was also used for medicinal purposes. Grape juice certainly is beneficial for vitamin content - but only wine with alcohol helps in the areas Paul spoke of.

DOCTORS back it up! a "LITTLE" wine is beneficial - as long as people do not abuse it. God was wise in this, when he forbade excess drinking. Excess drinking of anything (beer, wine, scotch, burbon, etc) can and does ruin people's health and lives.

Nobody ever said drinking was a sin for Christians- aside from the Baptists and some other sects. Most Christians are just fine with alcohol.

And if you are anything but Christian I'm not sure what Jesus did would matter one way or the other. That would be like saying, "if eating beef is against the law in the Hobbit, how can some people eat beef today?" If you don't buy into J.C. that wouldn't carry much weight one way or another.

The first thing that someone should be considering is whether the idea of sin is actually real.

If God is supposed to be perfect how could She have made anything or anyone that wasn't perfect.
Think about it. The idea of sin assumes certain things about God that seem highly unlikely.

First it assumes a God who is too incompetent to organize a simple educational field excursion and figure out a way to get all of the students home safely.

How likely is this that God would not be smart enough to come up with a plan for our salvation that is going to work?

It also assumes that God must have created us imperfect if we are sinners.

One might assume that God would be able to create someone perfect each and every time if he chose to. Assuming God is capable of this, then it follows logically that we must be perfect creations if we are actually creations of this perfect God.

Unless of course you are saying that God chose to create us imperfect.

If God created us imperfect then anything that may go wrong is Gods fault, not ours. This seems a bit illogical at best so I think that we need to assume that What God creates would have to be perfect.

If this is the case and Gods creations are perfect, then nothing that we can do could change what God created perfect and make it imperfect unless we think that we are more powerful than God is.

How likely is it that we the creation could be more powerful than the creator. I personally find this idea somewhat amusing, and a bit absurd.

Religion tells us that God is perfect. If this is true then it could hardly be logically for Gods creations to be considered to be anything less than perfect.

If this is the case then Nothing that we can ever do could possibly change this perfection that God willed, unless we were so powerful that our choices could override and change the will of God.

How likely is that????

Think about it.

The idea of sin is simple nonsense; a lie made up about God by religion.

Christianity doesn't consider drinking to be a sin. In fact, in the past during Communion, churches used wine.

Anything in excess is considered sinful. Many ppl drink in excess, and that's what's considered the sin.

That's a good question. I've always been taught that it is immoderate drinking that is the sin, not the drinking itself. However, I do know John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, saw what immoderate alcohol consumption did to people and made no drinking a big part of his church.

Getting drunk is the sin. However, certain genetic groups have the addictive gene and should never drink. Some of their religious leaders have recognized the dangers of drink and made it a religious command not to drink alcohol.

People of Jesus' time only drank wine because it was healthier than drinking the filthy water. Now people drink wine because of the buzz.
