When people started to question what happened to babies that died before baptism they created this "Limbo" concept, but now they are saying that the babies go straight to heaven.

Almost every theistic, religious system of morality is founded upon the premise that a god has created morality and has issued moral commands to humanity. Real morality, however, cannot be mere obedience. A truly moral choice cannot be dependent upon a desire to avoid punishment. Moreover, eternal punishment for temporal crimes, however awful, is itself immoral because it is so disproportionate. The death penalty for stealing an apple would be less unjust. If a person does things merely for a reward, their choice is based upon selfishness, not moral values. The absence of intellectual values that would encourage reasoning about our choices is consistent with the countervailing emphasis on obedience to authority.
As a matter of fact, it can be argued that many of the problems we face can be traced to an over-reliance on religious moral systems which seriously suffer from the above flaws

Two people have already told me that here. I know pentecostal people in real life but I have never asked them about what they have to do to be saved?

If you don't speak in tongues, what happens?

I am a Christian and I have never spoke in tongues.

i just saw prime example: guy asks why atheists chill with christians. in the details, he implied that christians never messed up. he also bashed atheists and told them to leave.....funny but why do some christians act like that?

not condeming you just wondering.......

P.S. i am catholic and i try hard to avoid religious topics but just this once i won't

To whom does one owe the pleasure of living
This collection of cells and bit of soul stuff
Random circumstance, in a universe unforgiving
Coalesced to make me, oddly enough

To whom do I pray, who owns my allegiance
Who is responsible, who’s in control
Who do I speak with, when I have a grievance
Who do I bow to, who’s virtues extol

Who do I blame for my continuing senescence
Who is accountable for the weight of my soul
Who will I see, when I discharge my essence
Who eviscerates me, while leaving me whole

Some may think these are rhetorical questions
That the answers are something I’ll never know
For those of that mind I have a suggestion
Only in the seeking, can wisdom bestow

of their crimes, wouldn't it be morally right to contact the police or would they keep quiet for church rules? Follow rules or let a killer continue? How does the church decide? How can a priest have this on their conscience?

He Said In The Bible That He Will Return One Day..

2006-08-06 09:42:34 · 14 answers · asked by Angel_Anton 6

The original meaning of the word hell was a place where people stored food for the winter. The word was translated from Hebrew to the closest meaning of the word in English. So hell is like a grave. It is never said that you would go to heaven right after you die, but all will go to hell (the grave), where one day; the day of Judgment you will be resurrected. There is no thought or experience in the grave so being in hell would not be suffering; it would just be nothing at all. The Bible never says that people have an immortal soul. It says that we must be resurrected first to go to heaven. The only one believed to have an immortal soul was Jesus, and as we all know from the text he was resurrected. It actually means that on Judgment day; those who are judged to be not worthy of heaven will return to hell, the grave back to dust cease to exist, not suffer for all eternity, just cease to exist. Where did all the brimstone and fire come from, who started that whole fantasy and when?

G W Bush has labelled North Korea, Syria and Iran as the “Axis of Evil” obviously offending those countries enormously. GW admits he’s a religious man, reads the Bible, prays to God, and seeks God’s advice. In fact, GW stated that God told him to invade Iraq (Google ‘Bush God Iraq Invade’ for details).

G W Bush will probably seek advice from the Bible and God on how best to handle these Evil countries. Perhaps biblical scholars could describe how the Bible describes Evil and how this Evil should be handled. This might give people an insight into GW’s mental acumen (or lack of it) and what might be in store for the North Korean, Syrian and Iranian people.

G W Bush according to opinion polls, is the second most unpopular president in US history, and is likely to go down as the most unpopular president ever. I doubt GW’s ego will allow that, and perhaps he has a surprise up his sleeve regarding the “Axis of Evil” and wishes to leave a distracting legacy for the world.

the bible says different (Matthew 46-49,1John 7-11 these are just a couple of examples) it is in your actions, speech and heartthat shows if you are a child of GOD. Look at what JESUS says in Revelations 15 I know your works, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that youwere hot or cold. 16 So, because you are lukewarm , and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of My mouth.

In the 10-12th century christians in europe burned scientists or murdered them for hearsay yet there future couterparts use the very technology that there previous generations fought against.

Again religion is a contriditory in terms changing it's values to try and cling onto it's lessening influence.

Christianity seems very adept at completely altering it's stance to suit the times over the ages.

So which word of the lord is the correct one the
10th centuary
11th
12th
etc
20th
Because each one has a different teaching

I mean, be honest, no matter how great it is, after a trillion years, don't you think it would get a little old? To say nothing of "eternity." Maybe I just lack enough imagination, but I can't think of anything that would sustain me for eternity. Can you?

I think it's hilarious! They type in all caps, tell me I spell Moehhammad wrong, and paste huge chunks of garbage from the Koaron which have nothing to do with the question. Could this be irrefutable proof that Muslims are insane?

The concept is so stupit. Why would God creat man, most with the deck stacked against them, and place him in hell for eternity if he did not perform adequately? If you went to heaven and your spouse, mother, father and siblings were in hell, would that truly be heaven for you? Just think about it, the whole idea is to manipulate you. Reject the idea, worry about something important.

...when creationists quote first-year biology text books to talk about some complex part of the animal kingdom just to say 'can evolution explain that?'

like

1) anybody who isn't a creationist ought to have an advanced knowledge of biology

and

2) 'God did it' is somehow supposed to be the assumed, and perfectly reasonable, alternative.
