Suppose (that also means IMAGINE or PRETEND) that lost scriptures have recently been found. Perhaps even scriptures from Jesus Christ himself. Pretend there was a way to authenticate that it was Jesus Himself and there were absolutely NO DOUBTS that He wrote it.

Now, suppose that contained in these scriptures, written by His own hand, were teachings that contradicted what is in the Bible.

Suppose that all the current views on abortion, marriage, homosexuals, etc. were reversed and that Jesus admitted that his teachings in the other gospels and throughout what we know to be the Bible had been taken out of context and too literally. Imagine that Jesus effectively nullifies the Bible as an Act of God.

What WOULD you believe and why?

PLEASE (for the love of all that's holy) REMEMBER THAT THIS IS HYPOTHETICAL. IMAGINATION IS REQ'D FOR THIS SEMI-PHILOSOPHICAL SITUATION.

because in the original Greek the word "God" is without the article. It is without the article, but it is clear that this is not their real reason, because verses 6, 12, and 13, of the same first chapter of John contain similar usages of the word "God," all without the article. The Witnesses have translated all of these correctly with a capital "G" and without inserting "a". The only instances I have found in which they translate "God" with a small "g" are when "God" refers to Christ. It is certainly not done consistently whenever the Greek word "God" lacks the article. (See the examples in John 3:21, 8:54, 9:16, 9:33). In the case of John 1:1-3, to avoid a translation that correctly identifies Christ as God, the New World Translation ends up attributing the creation of all things to "a god!"I have found one contradiction to the claim that the lack of the article before "God" in the Greek requires the translation "a god" in English that I find particularly striking. The New World translates the very same word for "God," without an article: "…they will all be taught by Jehovah" (John 6:45). Why didn't they follow what they say is their rule and translate it, "They will all be taught by a god?" Because John 6:45 quotes the Old Testament where the Hebrew word used for God is "Jehovah" (Isa. 54:13)!

We have a very healthy interest in religion - all religions.

I have found that majority of people find questions to be detracting from or insulting their religions, when in fact, we are simply curious and like to learn as much as we can so we can make informed decisions.

I saw this as one of the answers to a question here, and it made me curious. The article says:

"New Study Links Homophobia with Homosexual Arousal
Questions Whether It Is Latent Homosexuality Or A Response to Anxiety

Psychoanalytic theory holds that homophobia --the fear, anxiety, anger, discomfort and aversion that some ostensibly heterosexual people hold for gay individuals -- is the result of repressed homosexual urges that the person is either unaware of or denies. A study appearing in the August issue of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association (APA), provides new empirical evidence that is consistent with that theory........"

i was just curious about the opinions about this.

More specifically, did man create religion to counteract the fear of death, or did early civilization create religion to control human wants, and needs, and urges, by scaring them with eternal damnation?

I asked a question about heaven and hell days ago, and several christians answered back that they would rather have eternal life in heaven, over an eternity in hell, but they don't call this eternity in hell "eternal life". Now mind you when they speak of heaven it is all in terms of eternal life. If these places did exist, and you have to spend an eternity in one, or the other, wouldn't this be eternal life in hell also? Now I know all you Christian hypocrits will bend the words of your sacred text to mean whatever you desire, but lets use our brains on this one. No quoting books of mythology, just simple logic, does an eternity in hell and an eternity in heaven both count as eternal life?

You need to remember that what is right (that theres no god and no afterlife) is not always popular (since most people are christians that makes it popular, but its not right) and what is popular( christianity) is not right (no god and no after life is right). So if you tell yourself otherwise, your just fooling yourself. When it comes to the truth, there isnt strength in numbers. The truth still stands regardless. Whatever is behind that door, is behind that door. No collective anything will change it. k? is everyone gonna remember that?

Why must there be so much suffering? Wars, natural disaters, terrorism, rape, murder, homlessness, starvation, hate crimes, disease, etc. etc. etc. Isn't life hard enough without more drama and suffering? Why can't we all just puff on a big ole spliff, drink a beer, help one another out, and have some laughs?

If people just learned to accept one another for who they are and try to pick them up when they stumble this world would be much better.

I'm not a Christian (even though i've read that thing front to back) but I dedicate my life to helping people in anyway possible. Yeah I smoke weed, so what? That just helps me to calm down after dealing in a world where every two seconds a Christian says I'm a sinner for not going down God's road haha.

To me, Christians (for the most part, not all of them. I refuse to say 'everyone' ) seem to degrade people and point out all their flaws, while me on the other hand point out all their good qualities.

honest answers I'm unbiased :)

With so many teams in the world cup, with different religions involved. If all religions pray for their own teams, who can win? Is it a battle of the gods?

P.S. I KNOW I'll get some religious idiots who had a sense of humour by-pass who will want to shoot me down for "blasphemy" I look forward to reading the inane rants of these people.
