It is the belief that Mary was conceived without original sin. It has nothing to do with the virgin conception of Jesus.

The second answer is absolutely WRONG!!!! The Immaculate Conception refers to Mary's birth. Look it up or go ask a priest.
This is a common misconception of lay Catholics.

The Immaculate Conception is the belief that Mary conceived Jesus not by physical means. This is why she is known as the Virgin Mary.

The Immaculate Conception refers to the fact that Christ was born without the taint of Original Sin (Adam and Even getting tossed out of the Garden of Eden). He was born without the taint because Mary's mother got pregnant without having had sex.

It's referring to how The Virgin Mary became pregnant with Jesus without having intercourse. Jesus was placed in Mary's womb by GOD, not by man (er go the Immaculate Conception)

The immaculate conception refers to Mary and not Jesus. Jesus was born without original sin because he was God and the second person in the trinity. Mary was also born without original sin. Every humang being was born with original sin except for Mary. God saved her from original sin because she was to become the mother of Jesus and was the greatest human being that God made.

The virgin birth of Mary. Jesus couldn't be brought into the world by somebody who was born of a sin, now could he? Or so goes the reasoning I suppose.
