I think atheists are often a little defensive when it comes to topics of religion, because they're so often nagged to 'convert' to others' point of view... They may also be a little fed up with so many people reminding them that they're going to die because they don't believe, etc..
...I know I don't appreciate being reminded of those types of 'facts.'

No, I'm an atheist and quite happy really. Occasionally people will strike an angry nerve (like saying I'm a pawn of satan, that can occasionally unleash my verbal and blasephemous wrath) Some people are atheists because the world has been so cruel to them they lost their faith in God because of that, and they are often angry, but I'd have to say most atheists that are atheists for other reasons aren't really angry.

No, the majority of my friends are atheist
and they are all wonderful caring people
who give to charities, raise families, adopt or birth children,
go to movies and live their lives just like
my friends who are church-goers.
I've seen a lot of very angry Christians on this board,
mainly, I think, because they feel they're ounumbered here.
And both sides do a pretty good job of pissing each other off.
If we as a species are ever going to get to the point
where we really are together as one people,
we have to get through this rebellious period.
I think the whole human race is just going through a teenage
'troubled phase', and if we survive it, we will be
better and more mature overall as a people.
And I think we won't need religion any longer then,
but that is just my opnioin, of course.

I am an atheist and I do not feel particularly angry. In fact, I have a positive attitude towards life, care about others and about the planet and generally try to treat others with respect and kindness. I know right from wrong and try to live my life in a way that benefits many, not just me. (I am in the mental health field working primarily with children who have experienced trauma) I see nothing wrong with living in a way that is in agreement with the ten commandments. I do not believe in the way that they came about, but most of them are not such bad rules to live by.
As for being angry, sure, I get angry. I get angry when I am being judged unfairly. I get angry when self righteous fanatical christians rage at me about going to hell (THEY sound angry... most christians I have met are not like this, thankfully). I get angry when I see children being harmed emotionally or physically. I get angry when I see what we are doing to our environment and when I see people of power making political decisions that benefit the few and the rich. That is when I get angry. I am an athiest and I think that I get angry at many of the same things that "everyone else" gets angry at. I do much prefer to live a life of peace, though.

That would be an awful generalization for a tolerant person, you must hate god. But then maybe you don't believe in him, maybe your one of those no good angry atheists. I am. I am not angry unless someone makes an assumption about me because of my beliefs, or lack of. We just don't want your opinion, so stop giving it. One of the reasons I am atheist, is because I don't like the anger caused by tension between those of different religions. I like piece, so stop crusading, and get out of our faces, and then we may calm down.... Oh and there is no god.

No, it wouldn't be. Some might just be nonchalant and want to see proof before believing. One might ask the same about many major religions by looking at the horrible atrocities committed in the name of "faith". (Think: The Inquisition, the crusades, etc.) Would you assume that all Christians are angry people?

I have noticed that also. My theory is ( I've noticed the only people that really get angry are atheists) that atheists are just angry because they don't have anything to believe in.

Nah, I wouldn't say that "most athiests are angry people." I happen to know several athiests and consider them friends. The ones that I know experience anger no more or less than the Christians I know.
The ones on this discussion board? Maybe a different story :)

Angry why be angry? Christians, jehovahs, buddists what ever it is someone thinks that us atheists need saving and that we won't go to heaven but have they bothered to prove if there is a heaven or hell so why follow everyone else like a bunch of sheep. Have you checked our species? we are human not sheep so we all should be entitled to our own beliefs and leave us atheists alone to believe what we want.

I see a lot more angry Christians and I'm not speaking for the Atheists (I'm not one them). Maybe you're skewing the stats a bit because it's what you'd like to believe? It's just a thought.

They're not angry, they're just pissed at how they get absolutely attacked and put down by every somewhat religious person that strolls across Yahoo Answers. Some people can't put up with that kind of abuse and slander all the time without saying anything about it. And yes, it is abuse and slander at some points. Just read some of the questions that get posted. People can get downright rude when it comes to defending their religion (which is understandable, just do it somewhat respectfully please?).
