With so many teams in the world cup, with different religions involved. If all religions pray for their own teams, who can win? Is it a battle of the gods?

P.S. I KNOW I'll get some religious idiots who had a sense of humour by-pass who will want to shoot me down for "blasphemy" I look forward to reading the inane rants of these people.

The simple answer is that the people who play the best football will win!

Although I have a few humourous views to share...If it were to come down to religion, highly religious countries like Brazil, Italy and Spain would have to figure in the running. That said, the Vatican is in Italy, so perhaps they'd win?

That said, is does say in the Bible "If you pray, and do not receive what you prayed for you have not prayed properly" - that is you've prayed for something trivial. So, really, praying would make no difference.

Oh, and before people start thinking anything I've said means I'm some kind of blasphemer, I'm a practising Catholic, and deeply religious - I just know how to take a joke, and don't feel the need to ram my religion down people's throats.

An honest answer is it always humors me when before a match the team will kneel and pray that they win and that God will look down on them and smile....

as if by some miracle there was a true God that he'd be watching your soccer game or softball game and chosing sides.

If he had that ability wouldn't he be watching out for car wrecks where innocent people could die and save them instead?

But he doesn't do that either.. so I'm sort of doubting he cares either way... if he truly exists anyway.

I dont think people are praying for the religious teams. In football at least it is the nationality that counts,

You tried to make a joke out of nothing

IF everyone is praying for their team to win it should be even because their is only one God it would only be a battle of idiots trying to prove their selves right.no one knows who is right or who is wrong their is only one God like i said, everyone should pray that their religion is the right one to be following.make sure that your heart is in the right path because badness spoils what else might be good.

God dispenses his blessings according to how he thinks you will benefit - it is not dependant on what you pray for. Everyone prays for winning a million dollars/pounds but not everyone gets their prayers answered.

Everyone may think they are praying to their separate God's but God is one for everyone just as the Sun is called different names in different parts of the world. The sun appears hotter or cooler in different parts of the world but it is still the same sun.

God is not our order provider - he always acts for our well-being and it may not suit us sometimes but He really does know what is best for us.

I grew up in a Christain school setting... We played other Christian schools. I'm sure both teams always preyed for victory, but we could only have one victor. God rewards the pure in heart, and those that follow him faithfully. And sometimes, we must lose so that God's glory can be shown in other ways.

Imagine God and Buddha with their respective flags painted on their faces, placing bets like "if your team lose, I'll rule x country for the rest of the times". Soooo hilarious.

Last time we had a serious multi-god war, Troy was destroyed. I'm rather fond of Berlin, so let's hope the gods sit this one out.

I look at it like this...Is God pleased in the actual team that wins the event or is he more pleased in the way you conduct yourself and represent him?
