Suppose (that also means IMAGINE or PRETEND) that lost scriptures have recently been found. Perhaps even scriptures from Jesus Christ himself. Pretend there was a way to authenticate that it was Jesus Himself and there were absolutely NO DOUBTS that He wrote it.
Now, suppose that contained in these scriptures, written by His own hand, were teachings that contradicted what is in the Bible.
Suppose that all the current views on abortion, marriage, homosexuals, etc. were reversed and that Jesus admitted that his teachings in the other gospels and throughout what we know to be the Bible had been taken out of context and too literally. Imagine that Jesus effectively nullifies the Bible as an Act of God.
What WOULD you believe and why?
PLEASE (for the love of all that's holy) REMEMBER THAT THIS IS HYPOTHETICAL. IMAGINATION IS REQ'D FOR THIS SEMI-PHILOSOPHICAL SITUATION.

i would love to read them. However, i believe that main line Christians would fight it tooth and nail claiming that there was no way to prove it. No matter what proof was providing. I think that finding a gospel written by Jesus i think it would answer questions. Another thing, we would just fight over how to translate it like we have been with the bible.

If it was absolutely, incontrovertibly written by The Hand of Jesus, it would be in Aramaic. Since I do not read Aramaic (it being a dead language and all) I'd have to take some mortal's word that it was The Word so we are just back to wherever it is that we are now.
Besides...how do you know none of it was (written by Him)?

It would not extremely paintings that way. There are diverse rescensions of the Catholic and Protestant scriptures, and the Bible IS a library, no longer a e book in the well-beloved sense, although, Mary Magdelene is by ability of no ability the most modern revision -- in truth she replaced into lifeless for a lengthy time period in the previous the heretic Marcion provided the form of very much unique inventive and prescient of Christianity in his record of approved books (actually an quite edited version of Luke) that better orthodox bishops were compelled to prepare a itemizing. And this replaced into properly in the previous Pope Gregory the great positioned forth the claims of Rome which presented about the great Schism -- so the Pope in step with se would have had little to say about this as would have all people outside of Byzantium (Constantinople). The Emperor Constantine ORDERED his Bishops to produce the first record of "approved" scriptures. once you have ever study the Gnostic writings, somewhat than Dan Brown's version of them, you could also locate they are frequently profoundly troubling. obviously they contain those memories about Mary (no longer about her daughter -- Henry Lincoln and by ability of extention Dan Brown were provided that elsewhere) yet additionally they contain such grotesque scenes as Christ most excellent his disciples in a dance to rejoice that somebody else -- no longer him -- is being crucified in the secret Gospel of John.' Frankly really Fundamentalist theologians strike me as human beings basically unable to study -- in the sense Andy Warhol used the be conscious in his diaries. yet no, the demotion etc. of Mary Magdelene from her prestige as woman disciple replaced into no longer the outcome of any certain male malice yet somewhat the outcome of lack of understanding and the putting of no longer conceivable demands on the clergy because the international replaced into falling aside and as they were attempting to evolve to being "the authentic faith" in the existence of human beings that were murdered, and tortured (or maybe in St. Nicholas's case -- definite Santa claus's -- merely been imprisoned and had his nostril damaged) by ability of Diocletian's thugs. it really isn't any longer that straightforward.

Well, Paul put it this way in the Bible, 1 Corinthians 15:19, "If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied."

That's an awesome question. I can say personally that if that came to be and was really authenticated then I would consider actually believing Jesus.

This is easy...there is no god...Jesus wasn't the son of god and the bible is simply a book written by any number of people with a vivid imagination.

Imagine that you are a purple monkey. A purple monkey that is gay. A purple gay monkey that can fly but can't see. A purple gay flying monkey that knows how to speak Hungarian. If you were that monkey, would Thanksgiving and Labor Day fall on the same day?
Hypothetical questions sound like that to me.
