What are you talking about. Statues are found in churches. Catholics don't have any statues with them. Most of are praying in done in private by ourselves. There are no statues. Your questions are very superficial and fluff. Our church is the church of Christ. We obey the command of Jesus in Luke 22:19 and John 6:53-56. We have the Eucharist , which is Jesus Christ himself.

Catholics don't ask statues for help. We believe that when a person dies they can still pray for you. It's like asking a friend to pray for you. As for the statues when you were growing up did you ever have poster of a hero on your wall? Did you ever really think the poster was the real person? I hope you could tell the difference. The statues are much the same. They are just statues of great folks that have gone before us and we want to remember them and how they lived. Even though they aren't here on Earth any more we believe they are alive and well in Heaven.

I think they believe in intercessory prayer. For example, they often pray to Mary, mother of Jesus to intercede on their behalf and bring their prayers to Jesus/God. It's not that they think Jesus is insufficient, so much as they think their prayers will get there faster and also be considered more important if saints help them.

Also, often times when they appear to be praying to statues, they're really praying to the saint or person associated with that statue, rather than the object itself. That would be idolatry. Though really, I consider praying to anybody but God to be idolatry, those are just my own personal beliefs and not reciprocated by the Catholic Church (who not only condones but also encourages prayers to saints).

Hello. I am Catholic. I do not ask STATUES for help. This really bugs me when people think this... but it's ok because they don't understand, that is part of learning about other's religions. We do not pray to statues, it help us create a mental picture in our head when we pray. It enlightens our prayers, so they become deep and spiritual. Saints are those that are very close to God, just like loved ones that have passed away. They help us focus on our problems and the best way to present a way to ask for help from God. For instance, my mom prays to St. Jude often. He is the saint of impossible cases, and often I believe he really helps. I personally believe saints are there to help Jesus, and us. It is a comfort to us, and to have beautiful references while we pray is something that keeps our faith strong. :]

God Bless you and thank you for asking ♥

Who says Jesus needs to be "sufficient". You need to open your mind. Don't believe everything people tell you.

We cannot possibly fathom God or the Divine. We are human & it is pompous for us to think we can possibly interpret what "God" really wants. I believe there are lesser gods & goddesses, angels and ancestors that are ascended souls, more spiritually evolved, some people call them "ascended masters", that act as intermediaries between the human race & God/the Divine. I also believe that God is a perfect combination of the Male & Female Divine.

Some religions/spiritual practices, like Vodoo, for example, believe that saints (the "statues" you refer to) are just that, a sort of go-between for us & "God".

You'll have to hope that some catholics answer. However, giving the opportunity to pray, it seems one would as Jesus Himself who has lived on earth and completely understands our situation. I don't think dead people that this church deems "good" are need to explain things to God and tell Him who He needs to help!

having grown up catholic I can tell you the statues weren't prayed to any more than buddhists think statues of him are the real buddha. each set represents a different aspect of life you can pray to, the sain is supposed to intervene on your behalf, kind of like insurance. think of them like God's Wayland Smither's!-:)
But your right, why not pray to the source? It was good enough for Jesus wasn't it?

Catholics have their own set of "rules"...that does not make them correct. It is written that Jesus is the only mediator between man and God the Father. That is good enough for me. ;-)

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children• unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

If God is your father in Heaven and he loves you..why as a spiritual child of God-which Mary also is...do you pray to another spiritual child of God instead of your own Father in Heaven.He wants you to pray to Him..not to your spiritual sister...let alone a porcelain or ceramic statue..
