When growing up as a child, I knew my parents had challenges raising me and my sister. There were hard times finacially when we didn't have enough money. My parents sometimes fought about these things. However, as a child you ususally aren't mature enough to understand the mental and emtional turmoil your parents go through. Having lived on my own for a few years, I have had to deal with many of these pressures and challenges, and I feel the better for it. Having to do without and having to deal with different challenges as an adult HAS indeed built character within me. When I see people with problems I am more able to feel their pain, instead of just feeling bad for them. And it also has taught me to be thankful for what I have. With so many people winding up homeless and in poverty, I feel grateful just to have a place to sleep, a job, food and clothing.

I see some of the visitors here are asking dopey questions about being a smurf; indicative that the emerging generation who is well connected to the golbal village via the net and claims to be all about shaping the planet is, at least here, clueless or not very serious. SO HERE IS A SERIOUS QUESTION. I teach. Lets see if you have an answer that works. It is a yes or no answer so it is pretty easy to get it right. If you answer NO, the planet dies as do billions of people (first hint) and if you answer YES and are lying, the planet and people all die anyway so don't bother. WILL YOU SPEND FIVE MINUTES TODAY TO END GLOBAL POVERTY, DISEASE AND WAR? If yes, then what will you do? Please respond here. Here are some ideas: will you collect used computers for 1 - 5 days and then create a fund raiser (tin can) for 1 to 5 days and collect the money required to send the PCs to a distant school in a remote location? Will you learn about alternative energy and how wind power makes water? What?

Doesn't anyone realize that money is JUST ink on paper. I can't believe we've let our lives get like this. money drives everything. people kill for it, people lose family and freinds for it. doesn't anyone else find this as disgusting as me? If I were in charge I would get rid of money entirely and start using sheeps and seashells. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Mr. Gunshow, I participated in a question you also answered regarding the training tactics of Marines. I was a little offended at your response regarding me. I am a Former marine, but I was not born in 83. That is the year that I joined. I am formerly a STA Platoon member and a former Primary Marksmanship Instructor. I have always held other servicemen in high regard and would never disrespect one, especially in front of a civilian based populas. Having said that, perhaps it is you who is a little childish my friend. You are the one who claims to be such an expert, then you should lead by example and stop assuming that you hold all knowledge of the military in your palm. Each person has a different experience. It is my experience that people who brag a lot have no experience at all.

Am I the only one who sees this as a bad thing and frankly quite disgusting? Seriously though, whatever happened to good old fashioned love-making between two adults who care deeply about one another, why isnt that ever glorified?

we all are patriotic....and the feeling increases on days like independence day/republic day when we hear the loud speakers blaring out patriotic songs or watch some good film on tht theme and so on.

there were times ( good old days?) whn the national anthem used to be played as a rule in theaters etc and we used to get up& stand in silence as a mark of respect to the song & the country.

but was the respect declining? some refusing to stand/be silent while the national anthem is played confirms that? and hence the playing of anthems in theaters is stopped since some time?

how many of us (young/old) can sing our national anthem/vandemataram by heart without mistake?

not just the common man but how about our own leaders/ politicians? can they?

why we don't celebrate the days like republic day/independence day on par with our diwali or christmas or ramzan? flag hoisting in schools does happen.but other than that are they just public holidays for us or is it more?

The city I live in has a smoking ban in bars and restaurants, but I've seen smokers in the designated smoking areas (usually outside) being trash-talked even though they're following the law. Anyone know what's going on? I say leave them alone if they're not doing anything wrong. . . .
