I am planning to work in Washington D.C. with one of the international organisations there. My friends living in the US tell me that DC has a very high crime rate plus is a very expensive place to live in. Am also very worried about facing racism in public and at the workplace.

(Please save me the smart alec comments .. would be travelling outside my country for the very first time in my life and would have no support structure whatsoever in Washington D.C..... so just very apprehensive.. )

How do I ally these fears ?

Racism, Bigotry, Homophobia, Xenophobia, Intolerance, Oppression, and Extremism all have thrived throughout history. When one form of hate seems to slowly end in a region or country it is usually replaced by another form of hate.Is this because society needs to have something to hate?

Also, just so that people don't try to take from my list of types of hate because the word "phobia" is rooted in the wording, the following two words: Xenophobia and homophobia are defined by Webster's dictionary as:

ho·mo·pho·bia
noun
irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals

xe·no·pho·bia
noun
fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners or of anything that is strange or foreign

As you can see, hate and/or the act of hate is found in the meanings of both words and so both words are valid to this question.

Can society live without hate?

Some time ago, a teacher ,I was packing my car. I saw this student . She leant over and I did not know where to put my eyes, I'm not that way inclined. She was 13 and wearing !! under her short skirt and not much else Why didn't her parents help her?
Later my daughter was trying to buy clothes, for her 4 yr old. Store little girl's clothes showed a mid-riff. The swim stuff for 4 yr olds was bikinis/ For what? 4 yr olds do NOT need the top half of a bikini. Now my daughter buys 2nd hand clothes or has them made.
On a rare trip to the pub I saw grown women talking about being thin and talking girlie. They are adults they KNOW the main reason men want women thin, has nothing to do with health. It's so they can fantazize about picking up the thin girlie female and doing the penis in vagina thing with a girlie.
In my 30s I adored sex . The men I had sex with liked me, my age, my brain, my maturity, the real me not some girl.
Why do we encourage pedophiles?

Now that I got your attention, ¿what do you guys think about legitimizing marijuana in the 50 united states? Kind of like a; no asky no telly, type of policy. Dealers will still get locked up, but average Joes who just want to smoke a j in the comfort of their own home will NOT be prosecuted. ¿What do you guys think?

Squaw is NOT an English word. It IS a phoenetic rendering of an Algonkian word that does NOT translate to "a woman's private parts." The word "squaw" - as "esqua," "squa," "skwa," "skwe" and other variants - traditionally means the totality of being female, not just the female anatomy. The word has been interpreted by modern activists as a slanderous assault against Native American women. Any word can hurt when used as a weapon. Banning the word will not erase the past, and will only give the oppressors power to define our language. What words will be next? Pappoose? Sachem? Pow Wow? If we accept the slander, and internalize the insult, we discredit our female ancestors who felt no shame at hearing the word spoken. To ban indigenous words discriminates against Native people and their languages. It makes no sense for Native people to cling to and accept a wrong translation. We must stop now and educate, rather than tolerate the loss of our language due to ignorance.

I have an assignment regarding what customs that were practiced by different societies. For instance, the practice of cutting the vaginal part of the females in Africa in order to declare the female as 'clean'. I have tried surfing the internet but no result came out. I want some customs that most of us wont agree on. Weird customs but true. I need it as soon as possible.

It seems the US feels the need to enforce its version of pseudo-democracy all over the world. Sometimes US 'assistance' is requested by a country, other times it seems unwarranted. Perceived threats to the US often turn out to be imaginary, Iraq, Iran and North Korea spring to mind. Quick reactions do not always result in the best decisions.

We've been dating for years and now the time is here. He's in the process of buying my engagement ring, but he hasn't talked to me about converting for him. He has cracked jokes such as: I'm more Jewish than he is (bc I'm good w/$), and randomly he'll say "we'll have to talk to the rabbi about getting you converted."

Neither of us believe in God, but he has said that he'd like his kids to be raised in the Jewish culture (reconstructionist).

Does he just expect me to convert? Not expecting me to convert? Shouldn't he have addressed this issue before ring shopping?

I grew up frequenting Baptist churches.

I have started a petition on the Downing Street website asking that more books be made available in the talking book format for blind and partially sighted people.

Do you agree with this? If you do, would you consider signing my petition available at the link below,

If you decide to sign, please pass the link on to as may groups or individuals as you can who you might think would sign.

Thanks
