I have started a petition on the Downing Street website asking that more books be made available in the talking book format for blind and partially sighted people.

Do you agree with this? If you do, would you consider signing my petition available at the link below,

If you decide to sign, please pass the link on to as may groups or individuals as you can who you might think would sign.

Thanks

Yes, and they should also somehow have easier access to the internet. I'm sorry that I don't know HOW that is going to work out, but if they can't have access to the internet they are missing a lot--it doesn't help educate them and it's imply unfair...

But aside from braille books, they should also have PodCasts. This wont only be helpful for blind people but also for people who have ADD/ADHD and Dyslexia. What do you think?

PS: I would love to sign your petition, but I'm not British. Sorry. BUT GOOD LUCK!

I think your question should have been 'Do you think there should be more talking books for the blind.' Asking if blind people should have more books, looks like a joke.

I don't see why you petition the government about talking books, most people agree that it takes too long for many talking books to become available, but it has to be a commercial decision, it is no good making every book available in talking book format if most of them will not be used.

Although I am not blind, I enjoy cd, and cassette recordings of plays and stories, and there are a lot out there. There can never be as many as books, because they are produced separately by a different method.

Why don't you volunteer to read books not available, onto cassette.

There are not enough, but there are a lot.

You petition is to make it mandatory for publishers to make their new books available in talking book format. I cannot sign to that because it means even new dictionaries would need to be put in that format. Some dictionaries are available in other electronic talking modes.

I cant imagine life without my books. I am an avid reader , but I also know that the day will come when I will be blind ( I am partially sighted in one eye already) My glasses already look like jam jars. So a resounding YES to your question and I will go straight away and sign your petition.

Yes I do, my neighbour is blind and I go in each day to read our local newspaper to him, though we do have a volunteer group in our town who puts local news and things of interest onto tape for the blind people it only gets to them once a week or so, our library has such limited resources for blind people, my neighbour was an avid reader before he went blind and finds it very frustrating that we have such a limited amount of books and tapes for blind people in our town, yes I will sign your petition and lets hope something gets done about it.
