Nope. Offer to buy them a meal instead.

Although, I did give a guy some money once who said he was unable to speak. He wrote notes to me to communicate. I was hesitant, and I give him a few bucks. He returned soon after with the food he had bought, thanked me and sat with me to eat his lunch. It was one of the best feelings ever! He was so happy and said he even had some left to buy something small for dinner.

I guess they're not all bad, but the unfortunate stereotype is to treat them like they are.

Usually though, it goes like this: They ask for a couple bucks for food, gas, etc... I then tell them where the nearest AA chapter is and that those guys would be more than happy to feed and help them out. For some reason the panhandler always loses interest. (100% of the time-in fact I've NEVER had one take me up on the offer)
This is also fun:
If you see it coming-ask them for $5 - works every time. I don't see this as cruel b/c of the above. Things like that are a consequence of thier behavior and until one pays enough consequences, they will never want to get clean.

But I did use to see bums(sorry for being un-PC but im lazy) begging outside the liquor store. But I figure, what the hell its friday night. Here is a dollar brother, have fun!

I don't give money to panhandlers since there are so many other ways they can get financial assistance. I am sure some of them are fakes also.

Once some buy hit me up for money and told me he'd be straight up with me, that he needed money for beer. I gave him some money for his honesty. Most people hitting up for drugs and booze are addicted and could get seriously ill if they don't get it. So in that aspect it's almost better if they get it. But the downside is, without help they'll eventually die.

Ive given money to one of them one time. It was last Christmas. I was leaving Walmart and he was standing on the corner with a sign that said (Trying to get home for Christmas.) I, of course felt bad....so, we stopped and gave him 10 dollars. It made us feel good....and it WAS Christmas, soooo.
