No, no, no....dont think that. Ive wondered the same thing, in a way. Not that he is the devil, but, I became ill 6 yrs ago, and didnt know what it was for over 4 yrs and still arnt quite sure what all is going on with me, but I question God alot. I ask him, why he is doing this to me? Why isnt he helping me? Why are my two evil sisters making out like bandits and have all the luck and I suffer everyday? BUT, I cant question, I just have to take each day and use the brain that God gave me and hope that I get this figured out one day.

Dont give up on God. Things happen for a reason. God works in mysterious ways. Talk to a minister if you think that will help you, or even a counselor, or a friend. I know what youre feeling....I think.*

Perhaps you cannot get this thought out of your head because it's a thought you need to be thinking. There are many illogical things about religion. This, in and of itself, is perfectly okay. But when people start taking the illogical beliefs to be fact, then there's a problem.

The whole God vs. Satan story, the garden of Eden and all that is similar to nearly every other ancient creation myth and explanation of good vs. evil. That doesn't make it invalid. But it does mean that one shouldn't take these things literally. If they are taken literally, they're not going to make much sense to a person with a logical mind.

You are free to think whatever you want to. Don't feel guilty for having a thought. These thoughts you're having show that you have a rational thought process. That's a rare thing these days. It's to be nurtured, not suppressed.

My personal thought on the matter of god vs. satan is that it's not true. I think it's something that the ancient Hebrews made up to explain why the world has good and evil in it. It's from a very limited perspective, but it made sense to them. If it were true, the god of the Bible would have to be a very hateful entity indeed. By today's standards, that is. Back then, such a deity was considered powerful, merciful and loving. That's enough to make me think that it's just an ancient creation myth.

Your first statement, that sometimes you think god is the devil and the devil is god, is a very profound one. There's a book I read once, called "The Devil's Apocrypha: There Are Two Sides to Every Story" that dealt with an issue like that. It basically tells the story of creation to the present day from the perspective of Satan and in this story, he's the good guy. It's fiction, of course, but I wouldn't recommend reading it until you're a little more secure in your faith, whatever it is. A book written to entertain should never be taken seriously when considering faith.

Hi Jen,

You know, the devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy our faith. Luke 9:23 makes it clear that faith is also sometimes hard, painful even; "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." That means we have to study, pray and believe God at his word. God Bless you Jen.
