we all are patriotic....and the feeling increases on days like independence day/republic day when we hear the loud speakers blaring out patriotic songs or watch some good film on tht theme and so on.

there were times ( good old days?) whn the national anthem used to be played as a rule in theaters etc and we used to get up& stand in silence as a mark of respect to the song & the country.

but was the respect declining? some refusing to stand/be silent while the national anthem is played confirms that? and hence the playing of anthems in theaters is stopped since some time?

how many of us (young/old) can sing our national anthem/vandemataram by heart without mistake?

not just the common man but how about our own leaders/ politicians? can they?

why we don't celebrate the days like republic day/independence day on par with our diwali or christmas or ramzan? flag hoisting in schools does happen.but other than that are they just public holidays for us or is it more?

Our political leaders cannot memorize the national anthem, thats damn sure, 'cos they are acting the role of leaders. the best acters win. But in the case of the common man, many can recite it in its own accent. If there are people like you to make these days as events it will work. Many a times I have askd the same question thats why I respond yor question with a zest. We can make a group in the society to plan well before to celebrate, can make feast and festvities also. Now people care only for the religious celebrations. But if someone is there to uphold the national feelings dormant in the common man, ofcourse it will be an event. WISH U THE BEST

When i were in school the Silver independence day was celebrated I have contributed by painting the class board with all multicolor flags and everything and still remember the film Veerapandia Kattabomman was broadcasted in Vivid Barati for two consecutive weeks. In that year only I have seen most of the films Such as Kappalottia Thamilan, and so on.Still I remember during my *** end the School career, there was a national Anthem in all the theatres even for second shows. But mostly the audiance will never pay respect at that time and it was made an issue in 'Thuglak" the then fornightly magazine and after which I never seen the National Anthem being sunged at theatre. Ofcourse our patriotic respect have drastically reduced to bare minimum. No schools and colleges have made it compulsory to hoist the flag on that day.The school going children were took it as a holiday instead of knowing why that day is celebrated. In the drawing room almost all the channels only screen the movies won't have any relationship with that day>there will be certain interviews with certain Stars who ever speek about the Independence day or Republic Days. Why?In Delhi also only on that day some of our military machines will be exhibited to the world. Why not the President or Prime Minister make Patriotism as a degree such as Phisics, Chemistry. At least now ,since the country is wide open to foreign national to stepup into the Indian Shoes. It is high time that there should be real patriotism should be inculcated into the blood of everybody, right from the mothers womb. Because in day today life it has become horiible to work under tremdous pressure, in that everything is getting forgetton by the middle aged people like me.The younger generation is gradually and steadily forgotten that he is taking a sugar coated tablet in enjoing his life in IT and SOFTWARE and the middle and low class people are striving hard to day to day life and roaming over political parties. The Second Mahatma has to come to get back the real freedom and the foreign national and multinational people should be thrown out immediately. We can have a happy life with a single cup of water in a mud pot, rather than have a coke in bottle.

In front of people, we are very much patriotic, but deep in heart I doubt whether we are and in my part of India i.e. North East, Independence/Republic day means BANDH not holiday.

It's a simple matter of respect, or lack thereof. People don't have much self-respect anymore, so they don't have respect for anything or anyone else either. Sad commentary on the way our children are being reared....
