When growing up as a child, I knew my parents had challenges raising me and my sister. There were hard times finacially when we didn't have enough money. My parents sometimes fought about these things. However, as a child you ususally aren't mature enough to understand the mental and emtional turmoil your parents go through. Having lived on my own for a few years, I have had to deal with many of these pressures and challenges, and I feel the better for it. Having to do without and having to deal with different challenges as an adult HAS indeed built character within me. When I see people with problems I am more able to feel their pain, instead of just feeling bad for them. And it also has taught me to be thankful for what I have. With so many people winding up homeless and in poverty, I feel grateful just to have a place to sleep, a job, food and clothing.
