I think it has happened throughout history. It is just now that we have all the so called 'news' sources to hype it. As to why love-making isn't glorified.... not 'newsworthy' for people to behave in accepted 'normal' cultural modes.

First, sex between two people who want to have sex with each other is fine -- and no one else's business. This is the most important thing. Love isn't a requirment at all. Just consent. Getting married before you're sure you want to be together for life is unwise. After all, people my THINK it's love, but later find out they were deluded. Whether to have sex, or whether to marry, is for the participants themselves to decide, not anyone else. Also, many people who love each other aren't allowed to marry -- when the person they love is of the same sex. Many gays would LOVE to marry; but can't. Yes, if two people love each other AND want ot marry, then that's fine. Doesn't mean that every two people who love each other have to marry. It may not be permanent, or they may not want to marry. No one else's business.

Men have been running the game forever. The times and social changes have got women doing it to and they have the right to be just as free as men. The double standard where a run around man is a stud but a woman doing the same thing is a ho are over.
As far as the intimacy of a marriages consummation what's the point. Most people end up divorced anyway. Casual encounters mean no baggage, no emotional involvement, less problems.

KiKi - In the 60s is when the "Free Love" movement began, but do not be deceived, young people (and old) were having sex without being married, or with one being married, long, long before that...even into the early ages of the world.
At least in the 60s the people did try to love each other, though not in a marital way. Since then, its grown worse and worse. Now it seems nothing, even expected, that if you go on even a casual date you have sex.
Thing is...there is a price to pay...as always.

I hate to disillusion you but random acts of sex between two people who barely know each other is how we began as a species it has always been popular, some societies, by no means all, have decided it's unacceptable but it will always happen that's why there will always be prostitutes. Personally, I prefer not to indulge in such acts, I'm sure nobody is expecting you to either, but I totally stand by anybody elses right to do it if they want to.

Fornication has existed since the beginning of time, like prostitution. No......that doesn't make it right! I know! But when you really think about it, nothing good and wholesome is ever glorified by most people.
People get a rush out of risk!

It's always been something that has happened. It's just now in today's society that people feel comfortable enough to admit to it. While I'm not saying that it's a good thing, what someone else does is their business and they can do whatever they want as long as it's not affecting me in a negative way.

From the beginning of time. Many people settle for quantity rather than a quality relationship, sad. Getting to know someone intimately is a journey many people are to afraid to take. They settle for second best, sad.
