Where I live, dutch is the official language, but West-Flemish is spoken over here more than dutch. In fact, dutch is being seen as haughty, however, the dutchification of our people has been progressing as to the generation after me not being able to speak WF as fluently as we can.
In France (imagine that) West-Flemish is recognized as a minority language. In France, a country that's so hard at languages other than French, people are thinking of putting Bilingual street signs (Flemish / French) and are starting to learn WF again (the Flemish government in Belgium thinks this is wrong, because Dutch is more widely spoken, yet they have never spoken dutch over there). But over here, WF is being ridiculized, laughed at, mocked, subtitled... And not recognized at all. Should we also start to ask for recognition ?
