In my middle school, we have a choice of German or Spanish. I chose Spanish because my mother's side of the family has a Hispanic background. I find Spanish easier to learn because there are more cognates. Which language did you have to take in school? Which do you think is easier, Spanish or German?

I dont know about you but Im very angry at the amount of Spanish being forced on our kids(England) The dreadful Dora type programs being an example. Spanish is NOT a world language like French (Spanish is only widely spoken in south and central America and Spain in Europe) whereas German is by far the most spoken language in Europe. Why is this language being pushed more than the others ? it makes no sense and really pees me off.

Which should I learn?
The only thing I have against learning Spanish is.... I don't enjoy it. Haha... If I don't enjoy it; how can I remember it? Lol. Thanks for all the help... If I'm not clear on something feel free to ask a question.

Can anyone (preferably a native speaker) translate this farewell? It was at the end of a letter, but the on-line translaters don't explain it well enough.

Bleib wie du bist.

While one could break down the classifications of different types of English into virtually limitless groups and sub-groups, the three major variations of English in the world today are British, U.S and Australian. At one time, they were all the same language. Are all modern variations of English just as different from their common source, or have some evolved more quickly than others?

Where I live, dutch is the official language, but West-Flemish is spoken over here more than dutch. In fact, dutch is being seen as haughty, however, the dutchification of our people has been progressing as to the generation after me not being able to speak WF as fluently as we can.

In France (imagine that) West-Flemish is recognized as a minority language. In France, a country that's so hard at languages other than French, people are thinking of putting Bilingual street signs (Flemish / French) and are starting to learn WF again (the Flemish government in Belgium thinks this is wrong, because Dutch is more widely spoken, yet they have never spoken dutch over there). But over here, WF is being ridiculized, laughed at, mocked, subtitled... And not recognized at all. Should we also start to ask for recognition ?
