That's the preterit indicative tense. Just the simple past tense.(The preterit indicative is used to express definite past action, taken as a whole, with no idea of the duration of the time involved.)

comí = I ate, I did eat
dormí = I slept or I did sleep

Preterit formula:
For infinitive ending in:
ar (like hablar)
1. hablé I spoke, I did speak
2. hablaste you spoke, you did speak
3. habló he or she spoke, did speak

1. hablamos we spoke, we did speak
2. hablasteis you spoke, you did speak
3. hablaron they spoke, did speak
you spoke, did speak

er (like comer)
1. comí I ate,did eat.
2. comiste you ate,did eat.
3. comió he or she ate

1. comimos we ate, did eat
2. comisteis you ate, did eat
3. comieron they ate, did eat
you ate, did eat

ir (like vivir)
1. viví I lived, did live
2. viviste you lived, did live
3. vivío he or she lived

1. vivimos we lived, did live
2. vivisteis you lived, did live
3. vivieron they lived, did live
you lived, did live

Note: "Did" does translate into "hice", but I don't think that's what you are asking for here.

Dear friend,
In Spanish you do not use the equivalent of --to do-- with a verb. Also in thisa case you do not need a pronoun.
I did eat is --comi--I did sleep is --dormi--
You could also write;
He comido--I have eaten.
He dormido[I have slept]
What to say--como se dice, que se dice

hacer is the spanish verb to do

so did is past tense.

yo hice, means i did

but you don't say i did eat or i did sleep in spanish like you do in english.

you would say, yo comi, I ate
or yo dormi, I slept.

Umm, well there is no "formula" for saying that, you just say: "yo ... (verb in past tense)" like for example "yo comi" "yo dormi".
But if you would like so say it as an affirmation you would say "yo si ...(verb in past tense)" like for example: "yo si comi" "yo si dormi"

what you want to express is 'emphasis' on the action. you can say:
sí que comí. sí que dormí. (kind of like yes i did eat, yes i did sleep) OR
comí YA. dormí YA (ya sounds louder, means I eat ALREADY)
