i've learned the Katakana and Hiragana alphabets and i know the pronunciation of japanese words and i wonder what i should do next? if you know any sites please tell me....that would be very helpful.

Why do Japanese use Kanji too? i find it very hard because they mix up katakana, hiragana and kanji in daily speaking. Which alphabet is most used?

I saw a Garfield desktop wallpaper with him saying "So ist's recht". What does it mean? Online machine translations don't give a satisfactory answer.

The dictionary says it should be pronounced \ˈli-təl\
But when I hear it in audio, it sounds like "lirruh." I don't hear the T.
Should I pronoucne it "litoh" or "lirruh"?

When i say "intelegence" i mean language. Obviously langauge allows oneself to be more conscious and express ones thoughts more co-herently.

Animals such as dog' have been with man for thousands of years and have shown the ability to understand words thus understanding language albeit to a limited extent.

What im wondering is does this make dogs more smarter in the right situations then say wolves?

can they "think" there way out of problem with the aid of language and plan ahead while a wolf is just "reacting with instict" for instance?

I've added Spanish and French to the language options on my computer, but I am unable to type letters with accent marks. I have tried codes that I found online, bit they don't work. What could the problem be? I am using Windows XP.

It's the French title for the movie "North by Northwest," but clearly it's not a literal translation.

Choose to spell foreign words differently when translating from their alphabet to the English alphabet? For example, why do we spell it qua'ran instead of koran. Also why do we spell kung pao chicken instead of kung pow. These languages have no english alphabet so when we translate those "sounds" into the english language, why do we feel compelled to spell them so differently? Are we trying to make them sound more sophisticated? Just curious.

Besides Bre?

I'd like to learn Spanish (Mexican), as my daughter is married to a Mexican American. He’s a great guy; his family (Grandparents) came from Mexico and became citizens.

Over the past year, that they’ve been married, I’ve picked up some bits and pieces, but not enough to be well understood, or to be in a conversation. I really want to learn the language well. But I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a class, if I can find a cheaper alternative.

My wife and I are invited to many of their gatherings, but almost everyone is of Latino descent. Needless to say, when they get together the language naturally drifts to Spanish.

I don’t hold it against them, when my great grand parents (fathers side) got together with people from their local community, they all spoke Gaelic. It’s natural to speak your mother tongue.

My motive to learn Spanish is to be able to participate better and not force everyone to be an interpreter for me. And quite frankly, I’d like to learn something new and useful.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
