If you're using windows, go into
Control panel ->
Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options ->
Regional and Language options ->
Click the Language tab ->
Hit details ->
Select the keyboard under the English heading ->
Hit Add ->
Check the topmost box ->
Choose United States International from the list ->
On the lang. toolbar in the bottom right, click the keyboard ->
Change it from English to US International.
Now, if you hit the apostrophe key and then a vowel key, you'll get an accented letter. To form a tilde over an "n", hold down the right ALT key as you hit the "n" key.
Hope this works for you :D

You might try using the Character Map.
It's located by default under: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools
You merely select the character you need, copy it, and paste it. Alternatively, there are codes you can use as a shortcut. You hold down the "alt" button whilst pressing a set of numbers.
For example, the à = alt + 0233
However, the keystroke doesn't always work, as it doesn't work on my laptop.
Hopefully this helps. If not, you can just find the character somewhere, copy it, and paste it, albeit it's a little slow.

You can try those codes mentioned above or, change the input language of the keyboard in the control panel. Then the accents for spanish will be next to the P (´) to put it above the letter you need you press the accent key and next vowel and it is going to appear with the accent (á,é, Ã, ó, ú) . The ñ always is going to be at the right of the L.
That is if you have PC, for Mac is easier stay in English keyboard, to get accent press: alt + e (at the same time) and then type the vowel you need and will appear with the accent. For the ñ, just press: alt + n (at the same time) and then again n. ñ. For the open admiration sign we have in spanish, (in this direction ¡ ) press alt + 1 or ! . For open question mark ¿ press: alt + shift + / or ? at the same time to get it. To get the ü just press alt+u at the same time and then u. In Mac is much easier. Do not have to learn any code.

The codes work when your computer is only in English. If you change the keyboard options, then the accents are on the keyboard and you have to figure out which keys they are. If you turn your keyboard back to English only, the codes will work.
