I saw a Garfield desktop wallpaper with him saying "So ist's recht". What does it mean? Online machine translations don't give a satisfactory answer.

Well, "So ist's recht" (literally "it is correct so [this way]") means something like "That's the way!" You could use it if you straightened a crooked picture or managed to do something correctly (maybe after making a false start).
In this context, and knowing Garfield, I think the best translation would be "This is the life!"

Great!! :-) An autograph from my brother-in-law!! That's the way to do it/This is the life!! lol;-))
That's how I would translate it - might be beneficial to see the pic though

I´m sorry not knowing Garfield too well, so I translate this German phrase for you as a German would think and say it in English: That´s the correct way or that´s the correct way to do it.

Depends what Garfield was doing. The phrase is a bit esoteric without context.

I think a good equivalent in English would be "This is the life".
This is the right way for things to be.

Literally, "this way, it is right".
As an expression, it would be close to the catchphrase traditionally used by Mr Punch: "that's the way to do it!".

It means. "That is good" or " It's good this way" or "That's right"..... and so on. But I think you know what it means now.
Its german by the way. in case you didn't know.
