I love learning languages. I am a native speaker of English and am learning french and japanese. I really also want to learn a germanic language. Should I learn German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, or Danish? Germany is spoken by the most, dutch is the closest to english and the netherlands are awesome, sweden is a pretty country with wonderful people, and norway is a beautiful country. If I were to choose to of the languages, which should they be?

what is the alternate meaning of tener in the preterite and imperfect past tense. my understanding is
tuve=i got/recieved
tenia=i had
i used the yo conjugation for example purposes.
i know with some verbs the meaning changes slightly to fit the different tense (supe v sabia , i found out v i knew)

If a guy tells one of his "amigas" "Te quiero mucho" what meaning does that have?

I know that it literally translates to "I want you a lot" but is it used to express different feelings? How should it be taken? That has always confused me! Thank you! :)

Hi everyone,I am living in Australia.English is not my first language.I
got a bit confused by this.Could any aussie friends please help me?The question is about this word "district",can I use "district" as an adjective to mean somewhere that is outlying,poor and rural,e.g."district area" to mean a poor and rural area?I've looked it up in the dictionary,but the dictionary only says "district" could be used as a noun.How about used as a adjective?I occasionally hear ppl using it that way,is it right or wrong?

and what part of the world does it hail from? and do you know how your ancestors came by or chose that name?

Mine is John my ancestors were Welsh and my 8 x great grandfather took it from the name of his father. This is called patronymic naming. It is common in most societies, where somone uses their fathers name as a surname, Ireland we have O'Connor meaning son of Connor, Scottish for son of is Mac, In Europe we have Fitz, Van and in some scandanavian countries some surnames end in son.

A lot of surnames derive from placenames such as Beckham, or Nicknames like Redman.
