People seem to ask and answer questions the same way people text message - in other words, lousy spelling. Since we don't have a limitation on characters here, are people just lazy?

By "common" I don't mean anything like instant messaging type, but something that you might find in a dictionary.

I know they're used, say, in user names or IDs on sites like Yahoo! but do they actually have a place in common English or are they a product of the cmoputer age?

Dominei - Im hoping its the adjective for Dominor which means Dominent. So does Dominei mean Dominence?

Most countries call Finland something that phonetically sounds like "Finland." (Curiously, the Finns call their country Suomi, but that's another story.)

In Katakana, Japanese call Finland フィンランドwhich sounds like "Hunrando."

Why is that? What is the etymology of the Japanese word?

What do the Chinese call Finland? Does it also sound (more or less) like "Hunrando"?

Bonus Queston: Are there other countries that don't call Finland something that sounds vaguely like "Finland"?

Which of these kanji mean dragon. 竜 or 龍. If they both mean dragon, why are there two kanji for the same meaning? I am getting one of them tattooed onto me, and I just wanna make sure that their isn't a meaning that I am missing, like one symbol means male dragon and the other female dragon or something like that. I have recently developed an interest into the Japanese language, and I also have a few questions about that. I am a bit confused when it comes to the two diffrent readings, ON and KUN. Is the reading, ON, only used in Japanese and Kun for reading chinese or are both readings used in reading of Japanese? If they are both used in the reading of Japanese, the language I am intersted in, how do you know which one to use? Finally, one last question about the readings. Say for example, I am wanting to use the kanji for dragon,竜, in the ON reading of that charecter, how do I know which romaji pronounciation I should use since there are three? They are ryū, ryō, rō.

I want to study in Buenos Aires for my master's degree, but am confused at the language on the University of BA's website.

What's the difference between "carrera de especialización" and "maestría"?

I already have my bachelor's degree and I want a master's. Am I supposed to take both "carrera" and "maestría"?

And yup, I do speak Spanish-- I majored in it, as well as journalism. I'm hoping to study journalism or communication for my master's.

I come from a multi-ethnic family with roots in the U.S, Europe and Latin America. Because of this, I am fortunate that I speak English, German, and Spanish fluently (I'm working on French). If the purpose of all languages is to convey a specific thought effectively, what is the best language in terms of descriptive words, ease of pronunciation and learning, written text, and its ability to convey specific ideas.

We all speak English, I know that but, America is the youngest out of the English speaking countries. I was wondering:
1. Why, with an exception of the different accents Americans can have depending on their region, Americans are considered to not have accents.
2. Where are the accents of the countries I mentioned from?
3. If the English came to America and took their language ith them, when exactly did they start talking like modern Americans?P.S. I know America was not called America when the English came. When I talk about America being the youngest country out of the ones I mentioned, I mean it was a country when it got a government.

Please answer as many of these questions as you can.
