Dominor actually means "I have dominance/mastery/control".

Possible renderings of dominance are:

dominatio -onis f. [mastery , control; irresponsible power, despotism].
dominatus -us m. [mastery , absolute power].

imperium -i n. [an order , a command; the right to order, power, mastery, command]; esp. [political power, authority, sovereignty]; 'in imperio esse', [to hold office]; meton. [empire], and in plur., [persons in authority].
potestas -- power, rule, force.

Theres a Latin / English / Latin dictionary on the net. Type in your word or phrase and hey presto...! " Ano Dominei " is carved on the alter in my local chapel, so I doubt it means what you think.
