People seem to ask and answer questions the same way people text message - in other words, lousy spelling. Since we don't have a limitation on characters here, are people just lazy?

Poor grammar drives me nuts - BTW, I do have a life. Simple things like "1990's" is common and it's wrong. The "1990s" are plural, not possessive

Lazy or possibly stupid. Lazy for spelling I think because there is a spelling checker which I rarely use even though I know my spelling is rubbish.

Poor grammar may drive you nuts, but know what poor is before making such statements as in your added comments. I am probably at least as incensed as you, if not more, about horrid grammar and spelling, but I reserve that for REAL, not supposed. errors.
There are TWO ways to form the plurals of numbers, specifically instances such as those describing a decade based on the initial year in the 'tens' place. The older school, which admittedly is declining in usage but is still used, is to use an apostrophe plus an 's' to so denote. In this system the '1990's' is a perfectly good, and only correct, way to indicate the years 1990 through 1999. This is NOT a possessive; it's a plural.
A modernistic style has evolved, and although not universally accepted, this style would allow '1990s' as the proper way to convey this.
To me, this is a neologism that has not totally conquered, and those of us who are older than dirt will go on using our apostrophes to form plurals of numbers.
Before you condemn something, be sure it is wrong or erroneous, not just less common and not what you use.

Yes, and I think it's terrible especially when the spelling checker and the world wide web is available to use. Some even use abbreviations but I still cannot figure out what some of those mean.

Yes. That, and school systems suck nowadays. I know high schoolers that couldn't pass the tests I had back in the 1980's and many can't pass an exit exam. The phone and IM's have completely taken over their vocabulary. If you can call it vocabulary. I guess as long as it sounds good as you're speaking it, it must be OK in print.

Salutations My Dear Friend,
Why don't you go get a life and quit analyzing small little details like this, it's not like they're typing a freaking essay for a college course or something. I hate people like you. Sad thing is, people like you probably have never had a life. You have a fabulous evening. Oh, I forgot to ask, did I have any grammatical errors? Analyze that.

Yes, they're probably lazy, and probably don't know how to spell anyways.
