Why is swearing so frowned upon? They are just words, and like all the words in our language they have an ancient history of their use, so what's wrong with using them? It's not the meaning of the word that causes offence, it seems to be just the word itself, I mean I can say "sex" but I can't say "f**k".

I cannot thoroughly understand the following sentence without assuming that "to come" is redudant ("to come" can be ignored without harming the meaning of the whole sentence):

"However, there was a problem and it was one that was to haunt women for a long time to come."
(in "The seven daughters of Eve" by Bryan Sykes, on page 23).

So I mean I have to understand "for a long time to come" = "for a long time".

In case it is an idiom, I'd be glad to learn more about it.

I was wondering if there was a word in Latin specifically for a hound or a hunting dog. I could only find the word for a generic "dog." I want to know how to say shadow hounds, so if someone knows how to say that, it would also be helpful.
