When to use had, has and have. The easy, yet short guide.
Has: You use the word has, when you refer to someone who is in possesion of something.
EG. 'Look! He has a new bike!'
Had: This word is used when someone had possesion of something, but then possibly lost it.
EG. 'He had a bike, but a truck ran over it.'
Have: This is very similar to has. But is normally used, when talking to somebody directly.
EG. 'Hi *name of person* I hear you have a new bike!'
I hope that helps you :D

Two places. One is when you're talking about people possessing things, like "he has a bicycle".
The other is for perfect tenses, like "she has painted the house" (present perfect) or "she will have painted the house" (future perfect). This is done to denote not only the action described by the verb, but also the resulting state of the object. So "she has painted the house" means that she painted the house, and as a result the house is now painted. It is considered present perfect because the resulting condition (the fact the house is now painted) is in the present.
The perfect aspect is useful if you want to show that the condition resulting from the verb no longer applies, such as "he had filled the kettle" (past perfect) which means that he filled the kettle but the kettle has since been emptied.
