When a person with roots in one part of the world moves to another, is it more important to adapt to the new culture, or to hang on tightly to the familiar culture?

We watched a dvd last night; but my husband prefers seeing films at a movie theater. So, I promised him we'd go out to see a movie or two while he is on vacation this week.

How about you? Do you prefer staying at home and watching dvds or going out to the theater? What is the last film you saw at a theater?

How then do you pass a compliment along to those individuals?
This belongs in the Senior section because I am a senior who wants responses from my fellow seniors. Others are always welcome to respond though.

Today is a religious holiday in my country and I think I'm gonna be gay anyway. I'm wondering if it's okay. Well I got a new tee-shirt which fits well and I bought oatmeal two days ago cuz the stores are closed up and barricaded against shoppers today, which I knew about yeterday, thus that's why I shopped so I think it's a good day to be gay......

Whatcha think?

My 93 year old grandmother (i'm 22) was recently put into a nursing home due to dementia and that she needs constant supervision. The first time that I visited her was on Christmas Eve and it was a real depressing sight.

It reminded me of a scene out of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in there. All of the elderly were mostly sitting in wheelchairs in this big dining area. Many of them were talking and even arguing to themselves, some were just walking back and forth, others were laying on stretchers while the aides entertained them, and some were just staring out of the window. They have the stereotypical happy, cheerful music playing on speakers in the room non-stop.

It was really sad for me to see my grandmother be amongst these people and very sad to see a very intelligent, witty, and kind woman deteriorate throughout the years into a bitter, miserable person who couldn't tell night from day and who her own children and grand-children were.

I really dread the future visits.

I have known this kid since 9th grade and now we are both 21 year olds in college. I have always had a crush on him but of course I'm not out so no one knows. One time about 3.5 years ago we were at my house and we were wrestling which turned into naked wrestling (it was just wrestling though, nothing else). A few months later we were visiting our friend and while watching tv we started to spoon as a joke. We were both under the same covers and then he started playing with my nipples. Other people were in the room so no one thought much about it. but ever since then we spoon a lot but still dont hide it. Once, he came to visit me and we were both in my bed drunk and he started sticking his hand down into my underwear trying to rub my butt. I stopped him of course. another time when we were drunk he licked my nipple and then laughed. just last week, since our third roommate left we spooned every night & wrestled in a pretty sexual way. He hooks up w/ many girls so im confused

I'm 60, my mother, 88. Visiting for Christmas after a long absence, holding her close, she said she wanted to live with me "forever and ever", not comprehending my own disability.

My sister, 65, and niece, 44, were present, who tend her often, living in the same city as the nursing home, but neither able either. She is there for multiple TIAs (ministrokes). My sister and I saw the brain scan showing the damage, when the neuro PhD told Mother she could no longer live alone, nor in an assisted living center; that the areas of damage would cause additional falls, imbalance and impaired memory.

She's remained unconvinced 4 years. The doctors have confirmed that other than the effects of her strokes, she is in perfect health, and will likely live a lot longer.

Repeating what happened when we made this decision, she remembers none of it, nor having ever fallen, saying today she thinks we're "pulling her leg". It breaks my heart. I write her weekly. Keep these explanations?

to wait until you were mature to start doing childish things?
Seems many are reliving their childhoods on this site.
I expected it from the younger crowd, but was disappointed to find many of the MATURE users have resorted to childish pranks on other users.
Is this normal behavior as a person ages?
Will we all end up like this?

A psychiatrist visited a California mental institution and asked a patient, "How did you get here? What was the nature of your illness?" He got the following reply.

"Well, it all started when I got married and I guess I should never have done it. I married a widow with a grown daughter who then became my stepdaughter.

My dad came to visit us, fell in love with my lovely stepdaughter, then married her. And so my stepdaughter was now my stepmother. Soon, my wife had a son who was, of course, my daddy's brother-in-law since he is the half-brother of my stepdaughter, who is now, of course, my daddy's wife.

So, as I told you, when my stepdaughter married my daddy, she was at once my stepmother! Now, since my new son is brother to my stepmother, he also became my uncle. As you know, my wife is my step-grandmother since she is my stepmother's mother. Don't forget that my stepmother is my stepdaughter. Remember, too, that I am my wife's grandson.

But hold on just a few minutes more. You see, since I'm married to my step-grandmother, I am not only the wife's grandson and her hubby, but I am also my own grandfather. Now can you understand how I got put in this place?"

After staring blanky with a dizzy look on his face, the psychiatrist replied: "Move over!"

So many people think of black women as 'unattractive, fat, rude, and dumb' people, how did this crazy stereotype start?

Now, I'm not black, I'm Asian, but I've dated a few black ladies, and they were NOT 'unattractive, fat, rude, and dumb'. Well, maybe I was just lucky, LOL

Seriously, how did negative and false stereotype start?
Media?

I kinda sympathize with 'em because we Asian men have some messed up stereotypes to talk about too(nerdy, jerk, small *thingie*, blah blah, you name it!).

I'd appreciate thoughtful and serious opinions. Thank you.

I have had a crush on this guy for over two months now.We work at the same place but in different department. The crush is so big now that everytime I see him,I just want to jump on him,hug him, kiss him everything. I'm bisexual and he doesnt know it.
I want to tell him that I like him a lot but i'm afraid of what his reaction will be because I don't know if he is gay or bisexual!
So should I tell him that I like him?Do you think the best way would be to call him,to text him or to just stand in front of him?
Have you ever told a guy/girl you liked him without knowing his/her sexual orientation??What Happened??

I went to see the movie, "The Bucket List" (Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson) and it got me thinking about everything I want to achieve before I leave this world. I think the one thing (not the most important, though) is going to Times Square for New Years. I keep saying I'm going to go, but I'm never in New York at the right time. So...what about you?
