It's a mixture, becoming more commercial each year.

I would have to say after spending much time in religious
research, and the questions have mostly all been answered,
we now have put the old reasons for the season aside and now are secular. Believing in a peace on earth, good will toward men, attitude. Keeping in our hearts the attitude of feeling cheer and merriment that comes with the season of old tradtions and giving to others of ourselves in the little
things that this jolly season brings out in the best of us.
Enjoying the simple joy on a childs face, with their innocence, and wide eyed wonder of that man called Santa,
whos' lap they bravely sat upon and held still for the picture
taking that followed, before they were handed a candy cane.
For their looks of amazement, as they gaze upon a
Christmas tree for the first or second or third year, and keeping that look firmly in our memories. It's wonderful.
That first gift they are given, and how amused they were
in tearing the gift wrap and finding the ribbons and paper
more interesting than the present inside.
For Christmas is for children after all. And for the adults
that are able to rekindle memories of other Christmas times, as they gaze upon a child with the joy that only comes at Christmas, it fills adults within the room with a happiness that only a parent knows fully. And as a grandparent, there are no words to express how wonderful is the sight. For it brings warmth and gladness to us once again to our old eyes and hearts. That is what the spirit of Christmas is. To see the wonder in a childs eyes, and see the joy of Christmas on their little faces. And the happiness spreads throughout the room. And how soon we forget how our own
offspring looked those many many years ago. So it takes one look at children of today who are experiencing it to re-
member those days of long ago, when we were young
parents. And wonder where the years went.

It's day off work, a day we feel pressured to spend beyond our means,, a day we may regret afterwards if we do spend beyond our means, a day of feeling left out for some,
a day people sometimes feel is the only day they should be giving each year, a day that does bring out the best in many as well, commercialized, a christian celebration,a day that once passed feels like a relief to some and a huge sadness to others... but no matter how you slice it Christmas has a big effect on almost everyone.. I said almost.

Christmas is celebrating the birth of Jesus and in our celebration friends and family gather. We have German dinner comprised of homemade beef noodle soup, sauerkraut, spatzle, potatoes, and weiner schnitzel. The children open their gifts and the adults play a gift exchange of $50 game either the White Elephant or the Rudolph Lost game. This year we added karaoke. Next will be our Tamale Fiesta (15 people make homemade tamales) Our house is always the place to gather and I like it that way.

A commercial fanfare! The meaning has been diminished to this "much ado about nothing" I know in theory exist the reverant time spent and enjoyed with family and friends but the application is lacking for most of us.
Our lives seem to be topsy turvey or upside down.
Right is wrong and wrong is right.
Hmmmmm, good question.
Love ya, Juju

Secular. I was brought up in a strict Roman Catholic family. As I aged and opened my eyes the disgusting hypocrisy of religious institutions became repulsive to me. I love Jesus, it's His "fan club" for which I have disdain.
