How then do you pass a compliment along to those individuals?
This belongs in the Senior section because I am a senior who wants responses from my fellow seniors. Others are always welcome to respond though.

Yes, that is frustrating. Sometimes you just want to pass along a friendly gesture and instead you're met with "don't contact me!"

One thing though that frustrates me more on here, is when someone emails you a really nasty response to one of your answers and then they have no contact. It's kind of like walking down the sidewalk minding your own business, when all at once, someone comes out of nowhere and verbally assaults you and then just disappears.

That has happen to me a few times as well. Like when I get picked best answer, I always tell the one that gave it to me thank you. I first put it in the comment section, then I go to their profile so that I can tell them personally thank you, 9 times out of 10 they are not excepting emails. Not a lot of folks go back and check the questions they ask once they are closed, so there for I am sure that a lot of my thank you notes were not seen. If they get the email about it, then they know that they were thanked.

I have recently discovered this section, to my delight, and I plan on spending more time here.

But I achieved my Level 6 primarily in Gender & Women's Studies. They have some really NASTY trolls there, who will take you down for no reason. Legitimate posters there report receiving harrassing emails that say things like, "I hope you get raped" and "I hope your child gets raped." They're smart enough that you don't know who they are and what their own email addy is, so you can't report them. I don't want to even receive stuff like that.

It was a tough decision to make.

ETA: on the other hand, after reading the responses here from grown-ups, I think I will change my mind.

No......because there are people set to do hurt and damage and I consider it self preservation. If there was a way to control it I would be alot more inclined to take the risk again. Yahoo just isn't one of those sights I feel safe at. Even though I enjoy the people here....it's not the same on other topics.

Frustrating ? -- maybe a little. By same due respect, when the lines of communication are not open, I don't take offense of the fact that someone wants to use this site in the manner one would use a book or periodical. The site satisfies many different wants and/or needs.

It does a little bit. I realize that some do not allow email because they have received many that are not so nice. I must be lucky because the emails that I have received have been nothing but kind words, so I have left mine open.

I can appreciate your frustrations about not being able to send a nice e-mail to someone here but they don't accept e-mails. Perhaps they choose the non e-mail option after reading about many who are are receiving hate mail. Some don't allow e-mails because their name is a part of their e-mail address. Can't blame them I guess.

Yes, it does, especially when I get a Best Answer and want to thank them.

I guess I've been lucky on that I have not gotten any nasty eMails from people here. I've gotten blind-sided with violations and not knowing who did it and why, tho.

I can see why why some people don't allow it if they are getting nasty eMails. "Once bitten, twice shy."

As long as you're not nasty, eMail me.

Perhaps you should say what you feel the need to say out in the open. in front of God and everyone. I for needed a break from the onslaught yesterday. However, I've once again, after appealing several violation notices this am, opened up my email again... go figure!

The answerer above assumes there's some reason a person should wish to receive email from him/her, and that a refusal amounts to cowardice.

I think I must be able to get email because I occasionally get some. And when I get email I don't welcome I block the sender.

But if I got much unwelcome email I'd be coward enough to stop all email intrusion into my life. I'm plenty coward enough to feel a lot of repugnance for many attitudes I see on YA, and I don't want them cluttering my email.
