Upon hearing of his cousin, John's beheading by Herod, Jesus tried to go to the desert to be alone, but the crowds followed him on foot. When saw this huge crowd, in the midst of his grief, he felt compassion and healed their sick and then fed them from the five loaves and two fishes with 12 baskets of remnants left over after feeding the 5000 men plus women and children (Matthew 14:12-21 and also in Mark Luke and John).
This touches me the most today because it inspires me to continue serving loving and giving regardless of how much I may be saddened, down, depressed. It also indicates that God is constant no matter how I feel and that others can be helped even if I'm not feeling up to it. To not turn away from the constant demands of the world just because I'm feeling like I'd like to have some privacy for awhile.
