it out in the open. how many times have you taken your shirt off and looked at your pale torso in disgust? i know i have. how many times have you looked at your pale legs in horror ? i know i have. we all know that the perfect skin for us will be olive, or maybe a little tanned, so why do we like to pretend that we love being pale ? lets air out our dirty laundry folks because only with this kind of dialogue can we find peace and acceptance within ourselves.

We had a lovely Thanksgiving on Thursday. This morning (Friday) I am awoken at 5:30 am by noises in the kitchen and garage. I thought our home was being broken into! I go out to find my mother's new husband has loaded his truck and my mother tells me they are leaving. When I ask her why? She said that "Bill" awoke at 5:00 am and stated he was "bored" and ready to go home! My poor mother looked like she had been crying. When "Bill" came back into the house to refill his coffee mug I asked him "What is going on?" and he said "We are leaving." I could have killed him - my Mother and I had plans today. "Bill" did not even have the courtesy to wait until either my husband and I got up to thank us for Thanksgiving/our hospitality. My mother did not even have a chance to say goodbye to her granddaughter (they live 3 hours away). I could have woken up this morning to find my Mother simply gone. She said there was nothing she could do as they were in his vehicle. Is this rude of Bill or what?

I have been developing my own little non-christian traditions, primarily with pantheism themes in mind.

How do you celebrate and what traditions have you chosen?

Christains, spiritualists, Hindus, etc. all put questions on this site. Don't they know whe don't all see eye to eye? Why can't they give the New Age people they're own room to discuss topics and not be judged by right wing neo con christians who hate us? They have a room for bullfighting, is that really an important subject?

abt presence of god?

2007-11-23 02:33:10 · 16 answers · asked by Anonymous in Religion & Spirituality

this is blasphemy!

Why would god bless an act of killing ? I just don't get it! if we are a nation of christians then where did we go wrong ?

Additionally, muslims, christians and jews all believe in the same god so the above statement is pointless given the context it is stated in.

Since the Greek word (stauros) that is translated as "cross" literally means "tree" or "pole" (see Acts 5:30) why do most Bibles render this word as 'cross'? Is it likely that the cross, which was in use centuries before Christianity (see crux ansata), is a pagan symbol that was later incorporated into "Christianity" by Constantine?

What evidence, if any, is there in the Bible that Jesus was executed on a cross?

This is hell, here, Society is hell. We created it. Society built up this idea that hell, is with this devil, in a fire place, that you serve eternity in, if you sin. They use this to get power. They would tell people if you don't listen, you have sinned and you'll go to hell. The biggest one, I absolutely hate is that if your gay, lesbian, or bi, you're going to hell. That pisses me off so much. We put up this idea of love, love each other, yet you turn around and put hate on those not like you. You're counter-dicting your-selves. Why would he deny his children. We are put on this earth to learn, so we can become higher spirits. And to learn what real love is about. To do so we must go, through regections, losses, etc. Without hate, we would not know what love is about. Without weakness, we would not know what strength is. Without failure, we would not know what succeeding is. so ya i guess you can say there is a hell...its here, no more than the dirt and hate that we created

I'm a recovering anorexic who recently put on about 10 to 15 pounds. It's a big step for me not to obsess over it, and I've really tried not to make a my main focus. Just yesterday my neibor asked me if I was pregnant, and told me that I've been gaining so much weight lately. Does anyone know of anyone who doesn't find that completly inappropriate. I cried the entire Thanksgiving day! I'm I odd for not thinking she was completly out of line?

I am an atheist who was raised Catholic but I still celebrate Christmas. I feel that I am celebrating an American tradition of gift-giving and family togetherness. I generally do not associate my celebration of this holiday with any Christian or Pagan belief (despite its origins). I'm not sure if this is because the rest of my family celebrates Christmas, because I am an acustomed to celebrating it, if I simply enjoy being swept up in the holiday, or all of the above.

I also celebrate Valentine's Day and other commercial holidays. The only holidays I do not partake in are those that are strictly religious.

So I am wondering if there are atheists who do not celebrate this holiday (Christmas). If not, why not? If so, why? What does this holiday mean to you as an individual?
