I dunno I felt like asking this cause my mom doesn't agree with them. I on the other hand do. I mean its not hurting anyone. Yes maybe if they have kids it can cause the kid some problems. But they are people too why not let them have the same rights as opposite sex people. The only thing is I would most likely not like them to adopt a kid. I dunno why but I mean some kid got into trouble at school in my area because he wrote I love my moms and he went to a catholic school. So the kid got punished for the school's ignorance

We've been hearing about how a bereaved father in Maryland has taken the Westboro Baptist Church to court and won a judgment of something like 11 million dollars...
About time, say I, and a great many other Christians, who are relieved that somebody finally did something about Freddy and the Offenders! They do not represent Christ, or Christianity!
However, I am wondering...will it be possible for Mr. Snyder to collect his judgment? Who, exactly, is responsible for paying him? Will the church have to liquidate it's assets? Does this mean that they will lose their 501c3 charter (or whatever)?

Pangel pointed out that the website, www.godhatesfags.com seems to be down, which is a good thing...
Will the church have to close it's doors??

Is this really the end of Fred Phelps et al??

My boyfriend is in the military and he wants me to move there with him. I've heard the city is extremely run down. I've also heard people say that many of the residents are extremely poor because they just came from over the border.

Is that true?

2007-10-31 14:09:14 · 6 answers · asked by Anonymous in Other - Society & Culture

Nope. Me, either.

Actually, I'm just feeling charitable -- thought I'd give the knee-jerk Maryphobes, Catholic-bashers, and freelance Bible interpreters another opportunity to spout off about this. Just in case they didn't get it out of their systems today.

One of our Catholic brothers answered the umpteenth "question" on this with an observation I liked: If it were true that the Church taught WORSHIP of Mary, he'd be the first one out the door. And I'd be right behind him.

The floor is yours, kids -- Catholic, non-Catholic, anyone. But I'm reserving "best answer" for the anti-Catholic who actually tells us something about this we haven't heard 10,000 times before.

I just had several kids come by my house, not even in costumes (and carrying trash bags!) who had to be about fifteen years old! What would you say is a good age to cut it off for Halloween? And what about not wearing a costume? Don't you think that's bad form?

1 John 5:19 says "we know we originate with God but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.

2 Cor 4:4 tells us Satan is the god of this system of things.

Exodus 34:14 sums it up. "For you must not prostrate yourself to another god because Jehovah, whose name is jealous, he is a jealous God."

Matt 6:24 says "no one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other or he will stick to the one and despise the other..." This scripture was more about money but the thought is clear.

If you are dressing up (yourself or your kids) you are participating in a terrible celebration that God is deeply hurt by. You may think it is no big deal but think about how hurt and angry God is by Satans lies, deceptions & corruption of what belongs to Him. I'm sure it's a HUGE deal to God. He watches to see whose side we're on, what's in our heart .

Jesus was tested (by Satan) but proved faithful.

Halloween is a test...did you pass it?

It is almost impossible to eat in a civilized manner? For instance tremendously huge hamburgers, too long french fries, giant muffins. As a result people eat with their fingers and need an inordinate amount of napkins. Waiters haveing a habit of comeing to the table while I am eating or talking, interrupt me, and ask "is everything ok?" Sometimes they even try to have fake conversations with me. Also, why can I not freely choose my own table? Thank you

The local Judge Executive decided to have Halloween trick or treating for the county a day EARLY because a few of his preacher buddies complained that people would be missing church on the holiday. The loss of money in the collection plates for one day hurts them too much it seems. I think the moron should be tossed out. So far, I've heard from at least a couple hundred other people who will be voting against him next election because of this. I also think the preachers who complained should be replaced. Your thoughts?
OH, by the way, only one small town went along with the Judge Executive's decision. Even the Sherrif's Dept. and the District Court had candy for the children today, as scheduled.

Happy Reformation Day

It a celebration in honor of one of God's great servants Martin Luther
On this day in 1517, Martin Luther posted the 95 Theses at the doors of a church in Wittenberg, Germany.

"Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, when He said (Repent ye), willed that the whole life of believers should be repentance. This word cannot be understood to mean sacramental penance, i.e., confession and satisfaction, which is administered by the priests.Yet it means not inward repentance only; nay, there is no inward repentance which does not outwardly work divers mortifications of the flesh.
The penalty [of sin], therefore, continues so long as hatred of self continues; for this is the true inward repentance, and continues until our entrance into the kingdom of heaven."

The Reformation brought a course correction to the church where by the teaching where to be from "scripture alone".

Do you think we need another reformation today?

What say you?

If there's one thing in common with the answers of most atheists it's insults and the belittlement of anyone not sharing their beliefs. That's often, to me at least, a sign of crying out for respect, attention, and yes, LOVE.

i answered a question about why believe/dont believe in jesus i said i dont and i gave texts from the bible so why is it that people still seem to think i dont have good reason here is what i said:
I don't
here is why:
1. the bible commands horrible things like murder and slavery

- Exodus 35:2 – God demands that we kill everyone who works on the Sabbath day.

- Deuteronomy 21:18-21 – God demands that we kill disobedient teenagers.

- Leviticus 20:13 – God demands the death of homosexuals.

- Deuteronomy 22:13-21 – God demands that we kill girls who are not virgins when they marry.

- Exodus 21:20-21 – God says that it is OK to own slaves, and it is also OK to beat them.

- Colossians 3:22-24 – Slaves need to obey their masters.

- Ephesians 6:5 – Slaves need to obey their masters just as they would obey Christ.

- 1 Peter 2:18 – Slaves need to obey their masters, even if their masters are harsh .

Was the family awarded enough, or should the court have granted more? Part of the story is below:

BALTIMORE (AP) - A grieving father won a nearly $11 million verdict Wednesday against a fundamentalist Kansas church that pickets military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.

Albert Snyder of York, Pa., sued the Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified damages after members demonstrated at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq.

The federal jury first awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages. It returned in the afternoon with its decision to award $6 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and $2 million for causing emotional distress.

Snyder's attorney, Craig Trebilcock, had urged jurors to determine an amount "that says don't do this in Maryland again. Do not bring your circus of hate to Maryland again."
