I just had several kids come by my house, not even in costumes (and carrying trash bags!) who had to be about fifteen years old! What would you say is a good age to cut it off for Halloween? And what about not wearing a costume? Don't you think that's bad form?

Thanks for everyone's input, and oh, Leigh, since you're the smart-*** of this forum, I must have hurt your feelings since it's obvious that you are still Trick Or Treating too!

they are in it for the trick not the treat. so giving into handing them candy might ward them off

If they're respectful to you and the other kids trick or treating, there's not really a "too old". However, having said that, if they're not in costumes, they're not trick or treating and not being respectful. I'd send them on their way telling them to get costumes on before they come back.
Margeret, I have to disagree with you. When my husband and I first met, it was too cold for the kids to go out trick or treating (we tried but it was snowing really hard and they were freezing and miserable), so my husband and my kids' father went out trick or treating for them. They came back with quite a bit for the kids, and the kids got most of it (not that they needed all of it, or anything) and way more than if they'd gone out themselves.

I mean, I don't think there's necessarily a certain, set age limit. I think that somewhere between 16-18 is the time to stop. But if you do go, WEAR A COSTUME! Seriously, it's not that hard to put on a costume!!!

I think 10 or 11 should be the cut-off age. I also think costumes should be worn in order to receive a treat. I would ask them what they're costume is - even if they obviously aren't wearing one. I would still give them treats or you run the risk of having your house egged or toilet papered.

You should give them candy.
Your never too old to go trick-or-treating.
Teenagers these days either go all out for Halloween or are lazy and just go around to get all the free candy.
Smart kids..

I get alot of adults at my house. They come and say its for thier babies at home but I know they are lying cuz you don't leave a baby at home on halloween. I also see adults dress up and come with a pillow case cover filled with candy. These people are known as freeloaders.

no.
it dosen't matter how old you are.
There is no cut off limit for age on halloween.
I meanhonestly, what is it going to hurt? All they want is free candy. At least they aren't trying to mug you.
Well maybe they cant afford a costume.
Lighten up. Stop trying to make rules for halloween.
It's people like you that take all the fun out of it.
