Asma Bint ’Umais relates that she said, “O Prophet, the family of Ja’far are affected by the baneful influences of an evil eye; may I use spells for them or not?” The Prophet said, “Yes, for if there were anything in the world which would overcome fate, it would be an evil eye” (Mishkat, 21, C.I., part 2)

“Anas says: ‘the Prophet permitted a spell (ruqyah) being used to counteract the ill effects of the evil eye; and on those bitten by snakes or scorpions.’” (Sahih Muslim - p.233.)

As you don't believe in God or anything divine or in any such afterlife. Which means that you basicaly believe that you live here now and then you die and that's the end of the chapter. Which also means that you believe that you will never see your loved ones again. Do you not find that depressing ever? How do you cope with life then? Now by no means am I forcing any beliefs on you nor am I looking for an argument of anykind. You have your beliefs and I have mines. I am just cuirous is all. Thanks in advance for your answers.

From a religious standpoint can any share their comments on the use of depleted Uranium?

DEATHSTAR II

DEPLETED URANIUM

There is more than one thing going on - making earth the 'death star'.

The United States has sold DU weapons to 29 countries

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs stated in August 2004 that over 518,000 Gulf-era veterans
(14-year period) are now on medical disability, and that 7,039 were wounded on the battlefield
In that same period. Over 500,000 U.S. veterans are homeless.

Just 467 U.S. personnel were wounded in the three-week Persian Gulf War in 1990-1991. Out of 580,400 soldiers who served in Gulf War I, 11,000 are dead, and by 2000 there were 325,000 on permanent medical disability. This astounding number of disabled vets means that a decade later, 56 percent of those soldiers who served now have medical problems.

The number of disabled vets reported up to 2000 has been increasing by 43,000 every year. Brad Flohr of the Department of Veterans Affairs

I'm most familiar with the christian hell, specifically the Irish variation -- being suspended upside down in a barrel containing all the liquor that you wasted in life.

So I'm curious: Who can beat that?

My friend recently went through a serious surgery, but she didn't allow me to visit her during her recovery. Now, she is fully recovered and is willing to see me in person. I would like to give her something, but I am not sure what is appropriate. Could you give me some ideas? Thank you!

Let's say that your child has a teacher, a man, who your child likes a lot and who seems to be a very good teacher. He never discusses his home life with his class, but one day, you're out shopping with your kid and you see the teacher, shopping with another man. The two are holding hands and even exchange a quick kiss. There is no denying that your child's teacher is gay.

What would you do? What would you tell your kid?

I am currently converting to judiaism, and Jews don't celebrate Halloween. Right now there are alot of halloween things going on, and in school there is an assignment I am supposed to do, but it is about Halloween. Can I do the assignment without going against my religion? Also, am I allowed to watch movies that have Halloween in them? I am just confused on what I can and cant do.

My 12 year old cousin wants to dress up for Halloween but her mom says she is too old. What do you think?

My manager never calls me by my name and only calls me "babydoll".

I have been too afraid to speak up and tell him not to call me that for fear of losing the only job I have (although no one has threatened me). He also chides me like I am a child and once when I called to tell him I had overslept due to a powerfailure in my apartment; he informed me that I couldn't work at all because I "can't oversleep".

Also once when I was late (due to a serious private matter)he chides me like a little child infront of a group of 4 managers and asks me why I was late infront of all of them. I tell him that I would like to speak to him in private and that it was of a personal matter but he tells me that "nothin is private, say it out loud babydoll, you can't be late and just walk in"

But as a 27 year old woman I find it completely insulting, rude and uncomfortable to be treated this way and called "babydoll"

I hear a lot of black people say that whites benefited from slavery, but none talk about how black people also benefited from slavery. Today's African Americans enjoy the highest standards of living amongst any group of black people in the world and have enormous benefits and opportunities that they receive simply by being born in America as the decendants of slaves. Clearly slavery was terrible for black people at the time, but today's blacks certainly have to be greatful in a way that this occured, otherwise they would be living in Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, etc. Some will also say that agreeing with this would be like approving of slavery, but i disagree. Most American's ancestors came here in very dire conditions, and it should be a sense of pride that african americans today have so much because of their ancestors' suffering, instead of being used for political gain. So, why not be honest and say that we all benefited from slavery, either directly or indirectly?
