Let's say that your child has a teacher, a man, who your child likes a lot and who seems to be a very good teacher. He never discusses his home life with his class, but one day, you're out shopping with your kid and you see the teacher, shopping with another man. The two are holding hands and even exchange a quick kiss. There is no denying that your child's teacher is gay.

What would you do? What would you tell your kid?

Portland, you do know that it's entirely possible your kids have had gay teachers, and you never knew it, right? Plenty of Christians are gay.

I don't care about a teachers sexual preferences..gay or straight they don't need to mention their personal life in school. They are there to teach. If they are a good teacher who cares!

Can we assume that your kid is male, so that there is some concern about the teacher "contaminating" the kid? Because that's not always the case, you know.

I had a very strange thing happen back in 1967. I was in Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, talking to a couple of friends. One was a gay man and the other a young girl, maybe 16 at the oldest. Suddenly a cop started dragging my gay friend out of the square, saying he was "corrupting a minor." Now, he was openly gay, the girl and I both knew he was gay, and so how was he damaging her? Maybe if the kid was a boy, the cop's paranoia might have been justified, but this was just nonsense.

It turned into a rout as the entire square was surrounded by cop cars and paddy wagons and it was clear this was a planned action, with my friend as a flimsy excuse. We made a federal case out of it and won! You can look it up, Hughes vs. Rizzo, in the federal records.

My point is that if you are concerned the child is being contaminated in some way, talk to him. Has the teacher said or done anything inappropriate? It sounds to me as though he has not, since you had no clue until you saw him in the grocery store.

If he was straight, would you fear for your daughter, or just assume he knows the rules and is respectful of his students?

I disagree with the certainty that christian mothers and dads are pulling their little ones out of sophistication. And with it being a standard college instructor why might it relatively is counted if the instructor is gay or immediately. i think of that that's not one of the new child's business enterprise what sort of existence a instructor has exterior of school. i do no longer think of the instructor being gay might impact their features as a instructor, so subsequently i do no longer think of it concerns. i'll assert that I disagree with the instructor having a image of their better half on their table. thinking lower back while i replaced into in ordinary college not one of the teachers had pictures of their households sitting out for others to work out, and that i do agree that the instructor desires to get rid of the image, because of the fact lower back the youngsters shouldn't know something approximately any instructors existence exterior of school. So any pictures of pets, or relatives could be bumped off, in simple terms because of the fact it would not ought to be there.

Not sure of what your angle is here. You seem to assume that a productive, successful member of society who is gay would be shocking to a Christian. If the BTK killer could be a husband and father for decades, hold the same steady job, pay his bills and taxes...if a monster such as him could be otherwise productive and successful, where is the shock and awe that a gay man could be an excellent teacher? And no, I am not implying that a serial killer and gay man are morally equivalent.

If my child seemed to notice them and questioned me, I would be absolutely honest and tell them the truth in a way that a child of a certain age would understand without belittling that person or their lifestyle. People who choose that lifestyle are just as normal as any other person. But what a child isn't used to seeing should be explained in a respective manner.

I would do nothing. If they are teaching in the school system then the school board has assessed their teaching requirements and they are acceptable.

I would be honest with my child if I had one, after all my parents, both christians, were honest to me about my teacher. My Junior High Art teacher and his partner lived down the street from us and it was no big deal - my parents liked them very much. In fact, I had my teacher's partner photograph my wedding as that is what he does for a living.

I knew one of my favorite teachers (art class) was gay and signed up for three straight years in high school. He was a kind man and good teacher. Nobody felt bothered by him. This was in the early 1970s.

A gay teacher doesn't bother me. A pedophile (most of whom are straight) would bother me greatly.

Well some equivalents that I can think of:
What would you do if you learned your childs teacher:
Knitted in their spare time?
was a vegatarian and loves tofu?
dyed their hair?
Had gone to a rival college?
Wears cotton poly blends?
Eats shrimp?

What would I do? I'd say 'Hi'. What would I tell my kid? I'd ask - in front of the teacher "Did you turn in all your homework last week?"

my children know about homosexuals and are very accepting of them ... of people in general
my oldest ( 16 ) has a few homosexual friends
so it would not be any shock to them .... they might be a little taken aback with seeing their teacher hold hands with anyone though
teachers are like parents ... they dont do things like that lol
