Quelque fois can be one or two words, depending on what you mean.

Quelquefois means sometimes :
Sometimes, I have to stay home because I'm sick becomes Quelquefois, je dois rester chez moi parce que je suis malade.

Quelques fois means a few times or several times :
I have to stay home a few times a year because I'm sick becomes Je dois rester chez moi quelques fois par année parce que je suis malade.

Quelque chose is always two words. You can spell it quelque chose, meaning something, or quelques choses, meaning a few things.

So sorry for my English grammar, I'm a native French speaker! Hope this could help!

Quelquefois is one word. Quelque chose would be 2 words. But I've seen both spelled differently (quelquefois as 2 words, and quelque chose as 1), but in dictionaries it's quelquefois and quelque chose.
