I am not at all sure why this is being asked in the religion section..but I can tell for a fact,,,living next door to Louisiana here on the Gulf Coast,,,the alligator does not taste like chicken,,it taste like fish and maybe a little like pork,,,,but not chicken....I don't like it myself,,,I prefer chicken,,,but I guess you are right with your premise...you have to compare something new to something you already know,,,,,

For instance, the one time I tried fried chitlins,,I thought they tasted like crap....but if I had tasted crap first...I might have said,,,man that taste just like chitlings....

Tastes more like the white meat in a soft shell turtle. The red and pink meat in the same turtle tastes a bit like pork. Often people will compare fish, gator and turtle to chicken. If you find that as good, you should get the chicken. Much cheaper.

Sorry, alligator doesn't really taste like chicken

Of course, if you'd tasted alligator first you'd compare everything else to that.

Well, I have always told people this story.

Once a long time ago primitive man hunted Woolly Mammoths. One day after an unsuccessful hunt they were sitting by the fire and a little bird with a red comb came by. Being hungry they killed it and tasted it and said huh tastes like Mastodon!

Think of the irony. Big bad hunters, tired of getting trampled and maimed by Mammoths, became the first chicken farmers! (but they never told their friends)

I'm not sure why that question is in this category; unless it's some sort of religious metaphor I'm unfamiliar with.
