I have a son of six, and yesterday he came home with homework of a religious background.

Now I'm too not bothered about my child being told about these storys in his education, but today i wen't into school to discuss this with them and what i find out was disgusting, they get the children to sing songs of a religious nature, whole wide world in my hands etc, they are also taught that these storys are true and real life events, I'm not a religious person and i do not want my child to be exposed to fairy tales storys and lead to believe that they did happen, was i wrong to go in to the school and express to them that i do not want my child educated in this manner and that it was for the church do to not a school, and if it continue's that i will be taking my child out of main stream education, this teacher told me i was wrong and would be depriving my child of the truth and education.

I'm wrong?

Which is true, I told him because I was researching my family ancestry and was freaked out, but we got into a BIG fight and now he is threatening to tell a bunch of my other friends, some of who are Jewish and one, who had a grandmother that was a victim. What should I do?

...instead of doing things differently to produce better results? "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

This is a serious question although I realize it could inspire a bit of clever responses.

If the military draft was reinstated in the U.S. how would men between the ages of 18-26 who claimed they were homosexual be required to "prove" it.

A written note from their mom?

Is it safe to assume that the DoD would be forced to abolish the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy and finally allow gay men and women to serve openly in the U.S. Armed Forces ?

A few Saturdays’ ago, a Christian visited my house from a local church. She said hi and wanted to know if she could pray with us 'during this difficult time'. She did not say what the 'difficult time' was.
I said okay, that I would, if she would read a pamphlet on atheism and evolution. She refused!!!!!! Can you believe that? SHE interrupted MY day to push her beliefs on ME, but then would not reciprocate and read a simple pamphlet? (I didn't really have any pamphlets, but she didn't know that).

Is this a great definition of a hypocrite?

Why would you come to my door and expect ME to be subjected to YOUR belief, but not the other way around?

If I, having only a limited knowledge of the human brain (not having designed it) wanted to teach someone something, here's what I would do:
-Have one and only one copy of the rulebook. (destroy all false copies.)
-Make the rules and their consequences crystal clear. (not vague stories)
-Update the roolbook regularly.
-Make rewards and punishments clear and consistent so that no one could possibly confuse them for random acts.
-Make rewards and punishments increase gradually with the behavior, rather than saving them up for a big reward/punishment at the end.
-If there is a date when it is too late to correct behavior, I would make that date specifically clear so that students could clean up their act in time.
-I would be present so that the students know I care about their performance.

Every teacher and manager knows that this is how humans learn and change their behavior. If God created us, why doesn't he get it?

9:11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
9:12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
9:13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
9:14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
9:15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

(reference to Pharaoh) -> 9:18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

Hi, my wife is having a baby shower and the list of guests is being made. I have about 10 people on my side of the family and my wife doesn't know them, but I've known them all my life and she doesn't want them at the shower b/c she doesn't know them... This would mean about an extra $1500 to help us. It's 1 f-in day!
Just an fyi, she doesn't care about presents or $ b/c I make the money and will have to cover everything that's not bought. So, basically she doesn't care about the money b/c she knows I will pick up the slack...

I recently read a rather interesting NDE where a person claimed to meet what appeared to be the Virgin Mary. When he asked the being it's true identity, it later manifested itself as God, or in his words "The Supreme Being". The rest of the NDE is pretty much no different than all the other reports floating around.

I found this kind of strange though because why didn't God just bring the real Virgin Mary. Isn't this being a little deceitful? So God could just pretend to be mom or dad or grandpa as well?

I am looking to hear from someone who has a little bit of a religious background although I don't care which religion with some insight into this.

Your "mother church" is spending untold millions of dollars that was given by the faithful to help the poor and the church on paying off accusers. They are sweeping pedophile priests actions under the rug. Where in the bible does it tell us to pay extortion for the gospels sake. The bible says to confess your faults not hide them.. John 14:6 says Jesus is the light and when you shine it what do you see. you gift out of love is being used to cover sin. Would you give if it was your child that was hurt?

This is just a logic question so no one freak out about me denying God or anything.

Religious - God Exists (where's the proof?)
Atheist - God Exists (again, where's the proof?)
Agnostics - We don't know (Sounds most logical to me since there is no proof either way)
