The short answer is because human beings are in the world.
We suffer when we forget that we are all the same and try to prove that we are better than the rest. We suffer when we take our attention off of this wonderous moment right here and long for the future or the past. We suffer when we believe that we are separate and must struggle against each other and all living things to feel important and needed. Human beings create all suffering.

I am not sure that "why" is the right question, because why assumes that there is a cause looking for a specific effect. Let's just say that there is suffering. I understand that there are three types of suffering: physical, mental, and mindful. A spiritual person may be most interested in the mindful suffering, because there is a possibility of control of suffering through the Divine -- I call it the Paradox of Pain. Physical pain is sensed and causes our consciousness to focus on the feeling and the source, and we agonize. But some people are aware our minds, which are somewhat larger than our physical reality, are connected and communicative with other minds -- also with God the Creator. When in agony (it is easiest to see when in agony {NOT SELF INFLICTED!!}) one may turn to their mind and connect with God and submit or exchange one's free will with THE WILL. Once true submission occurs the mind ceases to suffer even though the body continues to agonize, no matter what the pain. PLEASE DO NOT DO ANY EXPERIMENTS TO INFLICT PAIN ON YOURSELF OR ANYONE ELSE. The communication puts one in the state of grace and can endure all pains. Job is an example, The Crucifixion-Redemption was Jesus in the perfect state of grace, it was so sad, he suffered so horribly yet endured. It's so unbelievable what He went through and never cursed a soul.

We are in a system of loving guidance. All that happens around you is the result of the collective consciousness and your consciousness. Your consciousness is pre-eminent in your immeadiate surroundings and the collective consciousness, while strong, is a little more generalized.
This system of reality we find ourselves in is not a system of test and punishment but a system of love where our free will creates our reality. There is nothing that has ever happened to you but first it was a thought in your mind. Either as you thinking it will happen or thinking it won't happen or some state of confusion. But it only comes to you after first being a thought of some kind. Like wise The collective consciousness creates in a similar fashion but in a more general way.
If you burn yourself in a fire and because you suffer you say fire is evil you never have control of fire to use it in a way to benefit you. It only controls you. But if after you suffer your burn you learn how to handle fire safely you are fires master and it obeys your desires. It serves you.
Like wise with all things. Your nature is divine. You are made in the image of God. You have dominion over this world. Any thing that makes you uncomfortable is part of the system of love. Just like the things that make you comfortable. If you embrace it all you find that you will be moved to a better place. Always. It is when you resist change that you find it hurts the most. Even in death when the old body is worn out, the new condition that follows is better.
I hope this helps.
Blessings and peace to all
All in all,
B

We suffer when reality doesn't conform to our expectations.
I'm not talking about physical pain. That's inevitable. But suffering in the sense of psychological angst arises when we don't get what we want, or we're stuck with something we don't want, or we lose something dear to us.
The first step in overcoming suffering is to realize that this is just the way it is .... nothing lasts, everything is impermanent, and reality always goes stubbornly on its own path regardless of what we might want from it.
You can try to make things better for yourself and the world, but knowing when to let go is just as important. It's a delicate balance.

I agree with "suffering is a perception".
You ask, "why is there suffering in the world?" ... that is a very large question.
Suffering as in A.I.D.S...... I believe that GOD created desease to punish those that are going against GOD's laws.
There are many innocent people that contract the desease, but if they do believe in 1 GOD, HE will take care of them for what they deserve.
I believe if there is someone that is suffering, there is always someone to do good deeds. Those people that do good deeds, and believe in 1 GOD, get rewarded by GOD.
If I found out that I have terminal cancer, I believe that GOD is needing me to leave this life. It is the greatest sin to take a life whether its our own or someone else's.
If I go without food for one day, Im possitive that GOD will take care of me as long as I do my part.
There are many things that happen in life that we dont like. Remember when we were little kids wanting something and our parents told us "no"? We couldnt understand why we were denied then.
We are GOD's children. We dont understand why we are denied of many things that we feel that is needed.
We can not ever fully understand GOD's work.
I trust in GOD, and things always work out for the best. Maybe not when I wanted it but GOD knows what is best.
I could go on, but I wont.

Because, Jesus died on the cross for our sins! He already knew that we would all sin and the world would become a horrible place. He knew the world wouldn't be perfect. He he had to suffer, then we do as well. That is what I believe!

suffering? because we all can't be happy all at once.. people are born, people die.. all kinds of stuff happens in between..
In other words.. there is no reason.. it's just life.. It's the only shot we have, make the most of it.
