According to the following fatwa, the sighting of the moon by one Muslim is sufficient for the Imams to command the people to fast.

The moon was sighted in Mecca on the 12th night of September, yet some Muslims (Pakistan & India for example) have ignored this and will begin the fast on the 14th. Why? What ever happened to unity??

"And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah and be not divided among yourselves..." ( سورة آل عمران , Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #103)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The witnessing of the moon by a single man

'Abdullaah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal said:

I asked my father concerning the sighting of the moon, if the sighting of it is done so by a single man?

He said:

((The Imaam should command the people with fasting))

It is the same situation that happened in Taiwan. There are several dialects that speak in Taiwan. In different region, the way or the pronunciation from the people can be different. In addition, people tend to think that person who live in the north part of Taiwan can pronounce more accurately than the people who live in the south part. Also, people will look down on and make fun of someone, if he/she pronounces words with south accent.

As the example present earlier, I believe that this is the problem that not only happened in the United States and Taiwan, but truly happened in every country. Therefore, the best way to solve the problem is that people should change their point of views and their minds to brace, accept different kinds of dialects. Also, they need to learn how to respect different dialects and different culture backgrounds. In schools, teacher should help students to understand the reason why we have different dialects and help them to learn to respect different kinds of people, regions, and culture backgrounds which are present in our everyday lives. If children learn this basic conception in their early childhood, when they grow up, I believe, it will has less prejudice and stereotypes to the people who from the lower social status or ethnic groups.

Remember when GWB said there was weapons of mass destruction, but none were ever found. Remember when Colin Powell lied at the UN, and more people died. Now we have the same old spin, GWB waiting for his general be tray us to approve his lying(lawing) so that more people can die.

Grace cannot lie(law) nor die(law).
Law Law seems to do both.

I've noticed that most old people, even my own parents who aren't really 'old' yet always seem to choose old music, films and fashion over new ones. Even something that's new is better they still reject it. There are even people who live in 'retro' homes where everything is old fashioned. They always talk about how much 'better' things were back in their days despite all the wars that happened and the barbaric cultures in some places (capital punishment). There are aspects of today's society that are much better than back then I reckon.

My wife is frequently invited to "selling parties" where the hostess is sponsoring a company that comes in to sell stuff to those in attendance. The hostess receives credit for the sales and is able to buy stuff herself at a discount or free.

Should these be viewed as a business transaction in which one is free to simply decline if they are not interested in the merchandise being sold? Or is it a social event hosted by a friend in which the invitation should be accepted out of courtesy even if she has no interest in the product being sold?

She doesn't sponsor these things herself, so there's no issue of hypocrisy here (declining others' invitations then expecting them to come to hers) but doesn't want to hurt the feelings of her friends who hold these parties.

This is of course, the account of when Abraham was tested by the Lord concerning his son Isaac.

The Scriptures clearly show us that Abraham did not question or doubt God for a single moment. But what about Isaac?

The only words from Isaac recorded are simply, "We have the wood for burning....but where is the offering?"

I wonder if Isaac held the same faith as Abraham while he was laying on the altar ready to be killed? We don't hear about any fussing or crying and what-not..........this part of the story amazes me more than the "Faith of Abraham" theme.

Don't forget about Isaac's faith as well.

Christians, your thoughts.

...since the originals actually invested any time to investigate whether or not that claim is true? I'm certainly not a scholar on the subject, and wouldn't expect anyone here to be either, but there is an excellent book, written by one of the world's premier Biblical historians, Bart Ehrman's "Misquoting Jesus" is all about this problem.

Mills found over 30,000 nontrivial differences in different copies he had access to. Modern scholars have identified mored differences in extant ancient copies than there are words in the New testament.

beliefs/religions/lack thereof?

just because you believe in something (or nothing) doesn't make it true, but only true to you.

i think to only teach your children your personal belief system is in fact closing their minds to all of the other wonderful possibilities that exist

what do you think?

same-sex marriages, if there is a law against that then....?
ok i think that if there is a law against same-sex marriage, then there should also be legislature against adulteres! just like it's illegal to get married for someone of the same-sex, it should also be illegal to cheat. yes it is in the bible, but it should also be in state laws! since obviously there are mixting church and state, shouldnt they go all the way? since they are interfering into people's private lives, shouldnt they also interefer in that? where people are ACTUALLY geting hurt?

The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly. - Exodus 14:8

Overprotective parents do their children a great injustice. The caterpillar that lies inside the cocoon will never become the beautiful butterfly if someone cuts open the cocoon prematurely. It is the struggle itself that allows the butterfly to emerge as a strong, new creature of nature.
God understands how necessary this process is.
. That is why we are allowed to experience difficult, often life-changing events. He even orchestrates them-all for our benefit. What the Israelites thought was a cruel joke when Pharaoh sent troops to pursue them after they had been freed and penned against the shore of the Red Sea became the stage for the most publicized miracle of all time-the parting of the Red Sea.
