I've noticed that most old people, even my own parents who aren't really 'old' yet always seem to choose old music, films and fashion over new ones. Even something that's new is better they still reject it. There are even people who live in 'retro' homes where everything is old fashioned. They always talk about how much 'better' things were back in their days despite all the wars that happened and the barbaric cultures in some places (capital punishment). There are aspects of today's society that are much better than back then I reckon.

people tend to listen to the music that reminds them of their youth;
have you ever seen an older woman or man sporting the cultural norm of the "in" fashion? enough said there. old movies are great, but so are a lot of new ones, can't help you there. Retro is hot. I'm older and the only things I remember as being so much better is, we still thought we had protection under the constitution, police were the good guys, not the para military they are today,
the air was cleaner, we still had major industries, the food was safe
and Fisher Price made quality toys. Not so many children were being snatched off the streets, and it was a very big deal when one was, I could go on a bit more; but then I'd be living in the past.

Put this into perspective.
The Mayans were a sophisticated society, known for the first written language, knowledge of the seasons, calendar, etc. In times of stress, this advanced civilization had human sacrifices.
Present day Western civilization is sophisticated, wonderful technology, medicine, arts, etc. In times of stress, we bomb countries weaker than our own, killing thousands of civilians and leaving piles of rubble for them to live in.

I'd sure like to know whats so much better about today's society!
Pollution, Global Warming, food scares, terrorism, school shootings, killing, mayhem, child abductions, 24 hr made up news, fat kids, internet, video games,etc,etc,etc,
Maybe the so called "old people" just liked it better back then.

I agree that today's society is much better compare to back then but it's their opinion. The reason why they feel that their era was better is that they grew up during that period. If they grew up during today's age, they would prolly have similar opinions as u and I would

They are not STUCK there... they are living happily in the past. You know... one day you are going to get old and not realize it but listen to the music you grew up with, wear the styles you grew up with and have the same views.
