Sometimes when im feeling depressed, and if i remember the lyrics to "Always look on the bright side of life" by Eric Idle, i sing it to myself and it cheers me up. Its a nice song. Sometimes when i refuse to sing it, its because i dont want to be cheered up.

Anyway, in your opinion, is it possible to be happy while acknowledging the problems inherent in the world? I think it is, thats why i sing this song to myself, but what do you think? Should we be happy when things are all horrible?

On a Christian radio talk show they were discussing the new Harry Potter book. Several callers said that when the Harry Potter books were becoming popular, many young people looked at Pagan websites and researched witchcraft. According to these callers, Christians are not even supposed to LOOK at that stuff, much less research it. My question is, if you're not going to research an opposing viewpoint, how can you argue against it, or say ANYTHING about it? Is Chrisitianity so weak that even looking into another belief is forbidden, lest the researcher be persuaded to change his/her beliefs?

I have a black friend who insists that my brother-in-law is not African American, even though he was born and raised in Africa and has dual citizenship. (And his family has been in African for generations and generations - he says they are native to Africa.) I asked her what determines who is African-American and she said that only black skinned people (with American citizenship) are considered African-American. Is this because only black people are native to the continent of Africa? ARE black skinned people the only ones native to Africa? I really don't know.
(This is a serious question and not meant to be offensive or racist.) I in no way think that black people (African-American if you prefer) are inferior to any other race.

i mean be reasonable, someone would have to rewrite the enire bible from the beginning for it to not be out of context, now wouldnt they, so i guess john 3:16 is taken out of context too huh, and god doesnt really love you(sarcasm) i mean get real, i remeber when i use to go to church and they would always say there is no such thing as a luke warm christian, in other words you believe in all of it or dont bother calling your self a christian at all, thats when i decided i wasnt one

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

What kind of lunatic would make a rape victim marry her attacker?

Is it just me, or is the pop culture of today completely dumb downed? Every time I turn on the TV, it seems that the programming is nothing but reality TV with crazy twists and turns that showcase some sort of nudity or unbecoming behavior. And, I'm not talking about the movie channels! Even the game shows are turning for the worst.

I don't want to seem self-righteous..i'm so far from it...but it just seems like the entertainment industry is just going to the dogs FAST! For example, I was listening to a commerical about a game show...and the host asked the question, "What do you think your friends call your genetalia behind your back..?" Or something like that. I was completely appauled.

I must be honest, I watch porn, too. But, when I watch it, I CHOOSE to watch it. I don't want to be shocked by it on my regular tv channels. All this nudity, absurb language, it's just too much. No wonder our schools are in a mess. Kids can't wait to get home.WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?

If we have evolved from some sort of prebiotic soup, and used mutations and gradual advantageous steps forward to become the amazing complex structure we are now, THEN WHY OH WHY did we "evolve" such an incredibly Powerful brain which according to top scientists never even gets used by as much as 1% of its potential? WHY? surely if its chance/survival of the fittest/only evolving what we need then its ludicrous to think this awesome organ which could never be filled even with 1000 lifetimes would never have come about?

Yesterday at work we had a security issue and there are no security procedures in place at the moment which is the resposibility of the business. I work at a front desk where I could have been in a really threating situation as customers were coming in I felt like I had an obligation to protect them too. After pressing the duress button and no one responding I went to walk out and noticed about 8 staff watching through the window in the door to see what would happen. I was concerned about the staff member that was being abused and threatened and the customers coming in.
It wasn't until last night it hit me hard and I thought it could have been me and what if he had a gun?
I don't want to sound like a sook but I'm really upset and hadn't shut my eyes all night last night and I'm 22 weeks pregnant.
Do you think it's time to get over myself and say it's the past or go home and take it easy?

Why do people continue to use this term? How am I supposed to know they are from Africa? Isn't that stereotyping? Did you know Dave Matthews from the Dave Matthews Band is more black than most "black" people living in America today? He was born and partially raised there! But no one insists on calling him African American. And why is it ok for people to call me white? I'm technically Polish American because like 15 generations ago, my family came from Poland. But the thing that pisses me off the most is people who claim to be 4 different nationalities. If you, your parents and your grandparents and probably your great grandparents were born and raised in America, you are 99.9999999% American. So much so that it is not even worth mentioning the other nationalities. When someone asks my nationality, I say American. Not polish.
