The MOST famous name for God in the OT is called the Sacred Tetragrammaton –It is YHWH.

Yahweh was changed into Jehovah by Christians -- Mark 12:29

Harpers Bible Dictionary says that the name JEHOVAH was "the result of the translators' ignorance of the Hebrew language and customs" (1985 edition , p. 1036)

Jehovah is a mistaken name of YHWH.

The Book "World Religions From Ancient History to the Present" says : "The name Jehovah is a medieval misreading and does not occur in the Hebrew Bible" (edited by Geoffrey Parrinder, p. 386)

The Interpreters Dictionary of the Bible says the name Jehovah is "an artificial name" (vol. 2, p.817)

Asimovs Guide to the Bible says that the name Jehovah "arose by mistake" (vol 1, p. 135). The author further says : "This mistake has persisted and will probably continue to persist" (p.135)

"When it came to God's name instead of putting the proper vowel signs around it, in most cases they put other vowel signs to remind the reader that he should say "Adonai". From this came the spelling Lehouah, and eventually Jehovah ...(pg. 8 ,Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, 1984)

"The truth is , nobody knows for sure how the name of God was originally pronounced". -(page 7- Watchtower Bible and Tract Soceity, 1984.)

The name Yahweh is derived from the statement God made to Moses in Exodus 3:14. Moses asked God as to what his name was and he got the reply -- "ehyeh esher ehyeh" .

The editors of the NEW JERUSALEM BIBLE explain this as : "The Hebrew can be translated literally 'I am what I am' , which would mean that GOD did not wish to reveal his name to them" (p. 85)

"The truth is , nobody knows for sure how the name of God was pronounced" (Pg. 7 - Watchtower Bible and Tract Society)

in matthew 26: 36-46, jesus asked 3 disciples to stay and watch(keep alert and pray) but they slept! how could they sleep on such a very important night?(for jesus told them, tonight all of you will desert me. and he even told them he would be betrayed.) I guess.....they were made to sleep against their will. can anyone tell me?

And I'm really nervous about it! I want to wear it to be modest and obedient before God, no one is forcing me to do it, and I'm sure that the vast majority of my fellow parishioners don't care what I put on my head, but I still need a pep talk because I'm totally nervous about this!

So my question is: Can you guys help me stop being so nervous?

I posed this question before, and I'm asking it again.

If there was one absolute truth or event that could prove to you that God exists (yes, this is a hypothetical situation and I know it probably doesn't currently exist), what would it be?

Examples:
- He would have to show himself to you physically
- give you everything you've ever wanted
- stop world hunger and violence
- tell you the meaning of life.

I'm honestly and Sincerely curious. I won't argue anything.

I say no, we are not equally fundamentalist. An atheist or scientist however passionately he may “believe”, in evolution for example, knows exactly what would change his mind: evidence! The fundamentalist knows that nothing will.
Your thoughts?

I was an atheist that got saved and it seems to me it takes a very open mind to even consider the supernatural much less to actually want to study and learn about it.
Isn't the refusal to study the word of God more closed minded and therefore of very little value.
I'm not asking a hate question, nor do I need hateful answers. Please be concise and think about your answers.

or follow the bible if there was no chance of going to heaven or hell? If there was no reward or heaven in the bible, would you still follow the bible and worship jesus? If so, why? You get nothing out of it, what would be the point. Lets say, just for arguments sake, don't start quoting the bible, it is just for arguments sake, that in the bible it says that everyone goes to the same place when they die. And this "underworld" is the same for everyone, no punishment or rewards, it is just a destination. Would this affect the way you worship or practice your religion? And this can go for any religion, Muslim, Jews, or Christian.

Truthfully I've only ever eaten one twinkie in my entire life (they come in a twin pack, the other we blew up in the microwave and ended up haveing to evacuate a wing of my school because it smelled sooo bad) and I never eat mcdonalds, burger king, ect. and I know many people who are the same. why is it assumed that all Americans are fat? It's true that a good portion is but what about the rest of us? Isn't the UK the second fattest nation on earth, and only by a slim margin?

Jews and Muslims have no problems with Christians worshipping their own 3 in 1 God........ but if they try to say the Lord of Abraham is a Trinity then Jews and Muslims will always rise up to defend the Truth.

just wondering....I have been having some strange things happening at my house such as lights flickering in the hallway, the plug of my tub being in the drain and the water turned on without anyone doing it....I was in the kitchen doing dishes and my husband and daughter had been sleeping for a couple hours when I shut off the water in the kitchen I still heard water running so I went to the bathroom to find the rubber stopper in the drain and the water turned on...I got a little spooked. Then tonight laying in bed was about to go to sleep and as soon as I layed down the light in the hallway started flickering when i woke up my husband then it stopped?? my husband thinks I am crazy LOL but I am a firm believer in GOD and I dont know why this would be happening?

1) The word “Messiah” is an English rendering of the Hebrew word “Mashiach”, whose translation is “Anointed”. It usually refers to a person initiated into G-d’s service by being anointed with oil. (Having oil poured on his head. Cf. Exodus 29:7, I Kings 1:39, II Kings 9:3).

2) There are many Messiahs in the Bible. Since every King and High Priest was anointed with oil, each may be referred to as “an anointed one” (a Mashiach or a Messiah). For example: “G-d forbid that I [David] should stretch out my hand against the L-rd’s Messiah [Saul]...” I Samuel 26:11. Cf. II Samuel 23:1, Isaiah 45:1, Psalms 20:6.

3) The Hebrew word “HaMashiach” (lit. THE Messiah) describing a future anointed person to come does not appear anywhere in the Bible. Since the Bible makes no explicit reference to the Messiah, it is unlikely that it could be considered the most important concept in the Bible. Indeed, in Jewish thought, the Messianic idea is not the most crucial. However, in Christian thought, the Messiah is paramount- a difficulty in light of its conspicuous absence from scripture.

4) Islam calls Jesus “The Messiah” because he is the Last of the Israelite Prophets.

http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/k/koran/koran-idx?type=simple&q1=messiah&size=First%20+100

5) Islam also states that a False Messiah will be sent down as a final chastisement to the Jews who denied Jesus once God gathers them all into one small area.
