People always say that smoking is bad for you, it causes cancer yadda yadda yadda...but then why do new smoker insist on smoking? Not judging, just curious.

Its just why would anyone intentionally fill their lungs with harmful chemicals

When I started smoking, its wasn't the social taboo it is now. You could smoke in the movies, at work, pretty much anywhere. I started smoking to look older, or cooler, or tough. Who can remember. I was in 8th grade, hanging out with older kids, trying to fit in. No one in my family smoked. I guess I wanted it to be my thing. I'm in my 30's now, and still smoke, heavily at times. Luckily, I don't have any medical problems associated with smoking. If people don't know me, they are always shocked that I smoke, because I don't have that "smokers look" about me. But, if there is one thing in life I wish I never started, it would be smoking.

I forget why I started...probably thought it was something cool to do. When I began in my teens (I'm 50 now), you didn't hear as much about the danger of smoking. Have no idea why anyone would want to begin smoking now.

It always gave me a relaxing feeling.But now I see more and more people carrying around these portable oxygen machine and it made me quit.

to fit in with my friends at the time, then i got addicted, then i quit cold turkey. haven't had a ciggybutt in 25 years
