What I understood is that Sunna means all the 23 years of teachings, actions, deeds, works, statements of Prophet (PBUH), the way his companions (Sahaba (r))understood and practiced.

Also the term 'Sunna' in Fiqh is differant which mean something that are 'Nafl' and not obligatory. Which scholars catogorized according to their importance and obligations.

Yes, it is everything that the Holy Messenger said, did or taught. Like the Quran mentioned, all the things that he did were 'wahyu' or revelations and not out of his whims and fancies. In cases where he did something which Allah disapprove of, the Holy Messenger would get revelations to guide him to do the right thing.

I think the sect you mean is the Ahli Sunnah wal Jamaah, the people/group of Muslims who follow Muhammad's pbuh ways and manners as well as teachings in all aspects. The Ahl Sunnah (or Sunnis) is thus distinct from the Shiites, also distinct from the Khwarijis of the past (who survive today as Wahabis in Saudi Arabia and Obadis in Oman)

The Sunna of the Prophet is well documented after rigorous tests of authentication. The various ulamas also documented the events that surround the hadith, which may or may not involve the revelation of certain Quran verses.

Thus the history of Muhammad is one of the most complete of all religious personalities.

Sunna is not a sect, it is the teachings, actions, deeds, works, statements, of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The Sunnah is the teachings, actions, deeds, works, statements of Prophet Mohammed(PBUH).
(...So take what the Messanger gives you, and refrain from what he prohibits you..) 59:7

( He who obeys the Messanger(MOHAMMED), Has indeed obeyed Allah..)4:80

(Say [o' Mohammed to mankind] "If you [really] love Allah then follow me[i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Qur'an and the Sunnah], Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is oft-forgiving, All-Merciful.") 3:31

The Quran does not tell us that only some Muslims should do this but all of us.....

Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows best.

Assalamu A'alaekum Brother.

For me holy Qura'n is saying of Allah swt, as one dimension.
Ahadith mubarika, are sayings of Muhammad pbuh, describing the sayings of Allah swt. accordingly as 2nd dimension.
Sunnah Kareemah, are Practical shape of the teachings of holy qura'n and the sayings of Muhammad pbuh, the 3rd and sperior most dimension of the teachings of Islam, in totality.
If some follows holy Qura'n and don't follow the Hadith and Sunnah, he cannot be a Muslim, some rejected sects of Islam believe only in holy Qura'n. Ahmadis and ...

Best regards.

Well, the true definition is one and that is for all the Muslims.
We shouldnt say your definition cos it is not we who decide the definition of "SUNNAH".
You may ask, "what do you think is the definition of Sunnah?"
so, I have been taught, that all the the teachings of Prophet Muhammed that he himself acted on, are Sunnah.

And the ones he only taught, are Hadith.
