or follow the bible if there was no chance of going to heaven or hell? If there was no reward or heaven in the bible, would you still follow the bible and worship jesus? If so, why? You get nothing out of it, what would be the point. Lets say, just for arguments sake, don't start quoting the bible, it is just for arguments sake, that in the bible it says that everyone goes to the same place when they die. And this "underworld" is the same for everyone, no punishment or rewards, it is just a destination. Would this affect the way you worship or practice your religion? And this can go for any religion, Muslim, Jews, or Christian.

judy r - are you saying that anyone that does not believe in god is going to commit horrible crimes? I am an athiest and have never been arrested or killed anyone. does that mean I believe in god someone?

and if you have to have religion to keep you from breaking the law, that says a lot about you and your character. that says you only care about yourself because you are only in life for the reward and care nothing about your fellow humans. sad.

You know what is bad or not by the law. And everyone has basic knowledge of what would be good or bad. Around the world it is know that killing, stealing and the such is bad, that is not a byproduct of religion. And you shouldn't have to need religion for a purpose in life. If thats so, I would think your life is very empty. You find purpose in everything, what you enjoy, your hobbies, your friends and family, doing work. There are many ways to feel a purpose without religion. Seems like a lot of people feel that atheists can't do anything "good" since they don't believe they will go to hell. And this was the point of the question, to see if you are "good" because of the laws and what you feel is right, or just because a god may throw you into a lake of fire.

if there were no rewards or punishments- what would the whole purpose of life be?- why would you want to be good? people would try to expedite their entire life to get to your so-called underworld. with no repercussions you could run around doing horrible hateful, hideous crimes. you just unknowingly took away the only purpose to life. this would turn choice into pleasure and self gain motivations. there would be no one for "the better good". my question to you is- why must people like you seem to deny the fact that there must be something more powerful than yourself, than the human race in general. and to the more simple side- why take away all hopes for being able to take refuge on the other side after going through this hell that we call life, all of the hardships that we face......... so- in answer to your question- yes it would affect the way i practiced my religion. i would have no reason not to do horrible, "sinful" things and not feel guilty for doing them.

actually i am curious- what keeps you doing "good" things, or caring for your fellow man?- how do you know which actions are good? or bad for that matter- not wanting to step on any toes, but you did ask a question- show me your side...... i have never understood atheists in the complex fact that science only explains back so far. what is your purpose in life without religion?- not specifying a religion- you have to have beliefs for the root of your guilts.

you are making this too simple. i did not specify "GOD". anyways- i also did not say that i didn't care for my fellow humans, however, my cousin was raped and murdered and i did feel vengeful, but because of my beliefs i did not seriously injur or end his life. what stops you from doing bad things?......

1. I don't follow Jesus, for it is an improper name and is not of Hebrew origin, as the Messiah was. His name is Yahushua. A name does not change between languages.

2. Commandment no.1 tells me to have no God before God. Meaning Yahushau is not God, and those that believe he is do not follow the basic 10 laws that were set in stone.

3. I do not follow YHWH (G_D, his true name) out of fact I hope for Heaven, etc. I follow it cause He is my father, I am his child, I am His creation. I would not exist if it was not for Him. So for that, my life is His. Even if that means no after life.

4. Get past religion, the titles, the segments, the branches, and one will find the truth. Stop listening to man, listen to the word, for the bible tells us so. Yet most listen to man and actually don't realize what the scriptures say. They think they do, but they don't. Great example is fact of what G_Ds personal name is, YHWH. Yet so many don't know this name or claim it to be only Jew origin. It was removed from the American bibles in 1914 due to a fight between the Baptists and the Jehovah Witnesses. Few know that fact too.

Punishment and reward is obvious... we don't have to wait for that, it happens every day. As you sow, so shall you reap.

Chapter 3 to 5 in Gospel Enigma is a good source for the Law and this kind of question about believing and so on.
