How do we know that other parts of the bible are not simply borrowed myths? Is it possible that it's all just fables and tales borrowed from other cultures? How do you identify such a concoction as the word of God?

life repeats itself. when Moses came to the pharoh told him i have been sent by God he rejected him. and then when Jesus came to the Jewish tell them he was sent by God they also rejected him. and when Muhammad came with a clear book that he was sent by God they also rejected him.

what make you think you are different than the jewish for not accepting Jesus? Life just repeat itself, for every generation there must be those who don't believe.

Cambodia's government issued a directive preventing Christians from promoting their religion in public places, or using money or other means to persuade people to convert, officials said Tuesday.

Cambodian Buddhists generally tolerate other religions, but last year about 300 Buddhist villagers DESTROYED a partially built Christian church near Phnom Penh.

Also last year, a group of Christian worshippers was caught distributing sweets to young people in the countryside while trying to convert them, Sun Kim Hun said. Such activities are illegal.

alright, so i'm a teenager, there are people all around me smoking, drinking, sleeping around and doing god knows what else ... but not me! in fact, i've a lot of friends who smoke, they've never even bothered to ask me to, and even if they had, i think i'd ditch them - those aren't friends!

do you think people really give in because of 'peer pressure,' or is that some pathetic excuse to be 'cool' or rebellious? can we even blame peers, don't you think the blame falls on US?

Here's my point....NONE of us KNOWS that we've got all the answers. Nobody on here or in the world knows without a doubt that we're the ones who are "chosen" or "saved"...So why is it that we have the inscent desire to try and prove others wrong, and moreover that we refuse to listen to what other people have to say?

i attend a lutheran church. everything taught at the church is biblical, but i don't agree with the practice of confirmation. i think it's a bit redundant for a person to have to take classes in order to become worthy of taking Communion, when the Blood itself makes us worthy. what disagreement do you have with your church?

I don't think people realy understand what that means when they say "all". The Klu Klux Klan and Neo-Nazis for example, are a culture and beleif and I don't think they should be tolerated. Now all i am doing is not tolerating someone because they are not tollerant, which is hypocritical. So then i am now faced with a dilema,what cultures and beleifs should not be tolerated and by what form of judgment/laws do i base this on.

i consider myself a christian but i feel very differently from "the bible thumpers" i have to say, may God not strike me dead, that i can understnad why people don't beleive in God or choose not to beleive......

Do you believe that God chooses who is saved and who is damned from the beginning, or is salvation a choice open to everyone ?

I have heard that these two opposing doctrines are called Calvinism (pre-destination) and Arminianism.

Also, I have heard some peopel describe Calvinism as God just knowing beforehand who will accept salvation and who will not, and I have seen pretty heated debates on that aspect alone.

So which is it ? Salvation by acceptance of Jesus Christ as your personal salvation, or a gift for the elect only ? (and NOTHING anyone can do, will change what God ordained before any of us were even born)
