I'm a Jamaican and if ther is somewhere that I'm dying to go, it is france. I have studied french for almost 5 years and even though I haven't quite grasp the language yet, believe me, I love to hear the word french whether it is the language or the people. You french people are one of a kind and there some things about you that just makes me want to be among you. It's something about your culture, the way you eat and I must say that you have have some wonderful things to drink. I hope that I get to be among you soon.

I absoutely love the French. I love the language and it's my heritage. I want to learn and know more about the French. I am Cajun French on my mother's side. I can't speak the language like my grandmother or my husband. But I'm learning. I learn every single day. Although Cajun is a little different we can communicate with those from France & Canada. When I encounter French, I always introduce myself & try to learn something from them. We have met a lot of French from our travels & we've always had pleasant experiences with them.
So I don't hate any French, or any culture for that matter. But I do favor the French. I can't help it. Good luck. 2D

No. Americans don't understand everything about French people, just as French don't understand everything about Americans. Many Americans view French as people who look down on American tastes, therefore many Americans would think- Why would I want to go to France? But in reality if people travel to France and attempt to get to know some people personally- they will see that there are so many things in common- love of family, work to make a good life for one's self, the enjoyment of gathering with friends, the appreciation for good food, and the gifts of Nature, etc. Politics aside and just seeing people as people- I know so many French people who I have come to really appreciate for themselves, for their values and personality. For the ability to joke with them about the realities of both our countries, and for the things I can learn from them and hopefully also teach them in return.

This is not true. I'm an American, and I think your country is probably the most interesting one on the planet.
I respect France because of it's history. You guys basically came to our rescue during the American Revolution. Without your help, America wouldn't have been able to separate from England.
Personally, I'd like to see the catacombs under Paris one day. I heard that it's a site to see - all of those bones...

Kind of. We here in the US are under the impression that the French hate us so we fire back with A LOT of jokes at your expense. I wouldn't say we hate anyone out there now that the Soviets fell apart but we make fun of a lot of countries, France being the main one, though it's gotten old and people don't do it as much now.

I'm American and have personally never known a French person. I will say though that I don't hate a person simply because of their color or country of origin. That would be very ignorant.
What your friend told you is simply a stereotype.
